Even jokes can be pushed too far. There’s such a thing as being mean.

Always fun working in an IT department on April Fools day. You can get EXTREMELY creative with the jokes, and no one gets hurt or killed; usually. One of my favorites was placing several layers of clear tape cut into very small squares over the little holes on the handset of someone’s office phone. Usually covering either the listening end, or the talking end. When the phone rings, or they call someone, it creates a one way conversation. They never notice the tape either, being clear and cut so small.

Another good one was creating a little executable that shows a Windows Explorer folder transfer box that Displays Text above the status bar reading: “Payload Deployment - Windows Will Uninstall In 30 Seconds. Please Close Any Running Applications”. Below the status bar, I had a button labeled ‘OK’, but when they clicked it, nothing would happen. Usually they just freak out and manually turn their computers off. To make sure it would happen, I’d place it in startup. If I decide to leave the place, I’ll put it in our network Login Script on my last day. LOL
