Word For The Day, Monday, 3/31/14

;

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

rapacious; adj.

1. given to seizing for plunder or the satisfaction of greed. 2. inordinately greedy; predatory; extortionate: a rapacious disposition. 3. (of animals) subsisting by the capture of living prey; predacious. Synonyms ravenous, voracious, grasping; preying. "Fortunately for those who pay their court through such foibles, a fond mother, though, in pursuit of praise for her children, the most rapacious of human beings, is likewise the most credulous; her demands are exorbitant; but she will swallow any thing." Jane Austen.

Etymology: 1645–55; < Latin rapāci- (stem of rapāx greedy, akin to rapere to seize; see rape1 ) + -ous

Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

That cake sounds yummy-something for everyone. I did a white cake with vanilla cream between the layers, and had sliced fresh fruit stuck on instead of icing and sugar flowers, and sprays of fresh flowers arranged on it-it was so pretty that the cub did the same cake for her wedding. That made it easy to remove the ribbon with the groom’s ex’s name on it, too-we just moved a couple of kiwi and strawberry slices...

Groom’s cakes are a Southern thing. We had one at our wedding. Chocolate with chocolate icing.

I should not be reading this part of the thread while I am hungry and went for a jog instead of eating lunch.

I’ve seen groom’s cakes all my life-but look at where I’m from. I’ve spent a lot of time up north too, what with a dad and husband in the military, and I’ve seen groom’s cakes at weddings there more often than not, too.

I was reminded of the rock group Cake-you don’t hear much of their stuff any more, but I heard their version of I Will Survive”-minus the f’bomb-on the classic rock station yesterday...

How are your non-poultry pets doing? And how much do they notice the poultry?

Midget girl and Titus are curled up beside me on the chair here at the desk-the Midget is rolled into a gray tabby ball with the white tips of her front paws making a contrast.

Those two always lie/sit so that they are touching me, whenever I sit at the computer or watch TV, and at night when I go to bed-I’ve had both of them since they were kittens, maybe that is why-Yeti boy is affectionate, but not like that...

I’m sorry you got bored with it - I couldn’t read them fast enough! We were living in a small town when I first found the series and I bought one book at Sams. I finished it in two days and couldnt’ wait for my next trip to Sams, when I bought two or three.... I bought as often as I went to sams until I had read all that had been published, then had to wait for each new book
