No, I haven’t seen a hummie catch an insect in mid-air.
That got me interested, so I looked it up.
You’d think they use their bills like tweezers to pluck them out of the air, but they just go at them with their bills open and scoop them up.
No, I’m not laughing at your trip to see an eagle. :)
I do the same, but my trips are for Texas endangered wildlife. I’m quite active doing all I can to help save them.
It’s a thrill for me to see our endangered Whooping Cranes, turtles, horned lizard and Ocelots.

It was quite a thrill for me a while back to be able to journey into deep S Texas and actually see the beautiful, shy little wild cat, the Texas Ocelot-which is almost extinct, due to hunting and loss of habitat.
Some of the conservationists were successful in trapping one for banding and examination, and I got to be there to see it.
So..I know how you feel.
