I was out earlier tonight and heard Mick Jagger over a store loudspeaker singing "Under My Thumb." Given the very tragic suicide of his lover of 13 years, fashion designer and stylist L'Wren Scott, who was buried earlier this week amid rumors that Mick's unfaithfulness was one contributory factor, I hope he never, ever performs that song again...
It's down to me
The difference in the clothes she wears
Down to me, the change has come,
She's under my thumb
Ain't it the truth, babe?
Under my thumb
The scurvy dog who's just had her day
Under my thumb
A girl who has just changed her ways
It's down to me, yes it is
The way she does just what she's told
Down to me, the change has come
She's under my thumb
Ah, ah, say it's alright
Under my thumb
A siamese cat of a girl
Under my thumb
She's the sweetest, hmmm, pet in the world
It's down to me
The way she talks when she's spoken to
Down to me, the change has come,
She's under my thumb
Ah, take it easy babe
Yeah
It's down to me, oh yeah
The way she talks when she's spoken to
Down to me, the change has come,
She's under my thumb
Yeah, it feels alright
Under my thumb
Her eyes are just kept to herself
Under my thumb, well I
I can still look at someone else
It's down to me, oh that's what I said
The way she talks when she's spoken to
Down to me, the change has come,
She's under my thumb
Say, it's alright.
Say it's all...
Say it's all...
Take it easy babe
Take it easy babe
Feels alright
Take it, take it easy babe
Could you explain why? That song was written decades before he met her. She was a toddler when that song came out.
I always thought that they were trying to sound Motowny. The marimbas are interesting.
I presume the idea is that someone who aspires to and experiences such in his relationships with women would have learned that that’s no way to treat another human being in an intimate relationship.
Ping
It’s fairly self-explanatory, mate.
Under my thumb
The girl who once had me down
Under my thumb
The girl who once pushed me around
Watching girls go passing by
It ain’t the latest thing
I’m just standing in a doorway
I’m just trying to make some sense
Out of these girls go passing by
The tales they tell of men
I’m not waiting on a lady
I’m just waiting on a friend
A smile relieves a heart that grieves
Remember what I said
I’m not waiting on a lady
I’m just waiting on a friend
I’m just waiting on a friend
Don’t need a whore
I don’t need no booze
Don’t need a virgin priest
But I need someone I can cry to
I need someone to protect
Making love and breaking hearts
It is a game for youth
But I’m not waiting on a lady

Do we really know why she committed suicide? If it was because her business was failing what difference does it make what Jagger sings?
Sounds to me like someone with power issues.
Reportedly she wanted commitment from Jagger in the form of marriage and a baby and he wouldn’t marry her and give her a kid. He is known to not want to marry and made it clear, but she hung on. She reportedly neglected her business and spent almost all of her time following his band around. So she did not work on her career and it started to go under.
It’s too bad since she did have beautiful designs.
No, it really isn’t.
Like I said, better to just walk away, but that's my way. The song would appeal to a lot of wounded egos in a day and age where you didn't jus' bus' a cap in dat (expletive deleted) ho for dissin you...
Things haven't gotten any rosier out there.
Well, you know what? The whole BITTERSWEET SYMPHONY affair vis a vis THE VERVE really turned me off to Jagger. Could be maybe I’m way off base, but it seems like the common understanding is that he just screwed them to the wall, “... and for what? A little bit of money.” to quote Frances McDormand.
So let him stew in his own juices.
What a ridiculous vanity post.
(She killed herself because he was running around? Give me a break, he has always run around, including people of both sexes. Anyone who anticipated he would be with one person, might also believe that Obama and Ted Cruz are best friends.)
