I was out earlier tonight and heard Mick Jagger over a store loudspeaker singing "Under My Thumb." Given the very tragic suicide of his lover of 13 years, fashion designer and stylist L'Wren Scott, who was buried earlier this week amid rumors that Mick's unfaithfulness was one contributory factor, I hope he never, ever performs that song again...
There was no humping until they were married, if I recall the plot correctly.
Did you see him live in concert last night?
To be honest, I prefer covers of The Stones’ songs. Mick’s prancing has always gotten on my nerves! And also, remember, the adage: the show must go on. Pros don’t care if their mothers croaked before going on stage. And people want to hear the songs that performers are associated with. That’s show biz!
Sure it was all on the up and up.
I always thought the thin-lipped Christopher Plummer was an odd choice for the crusty but heart-of-gold navy captain. I firmly believe he trussed up Julie Andrews like a chicken on their wedding night.
And never, ever make the mistake of talking to Mr. Plummer about this movie. A friend of mine lost his head doing this - an he is a professional interviewer of actors!
Looked up the von Trapps. He was 24 years older. Not much more than the 21-year age span between Mick and L'Wren. The von Trapps were 20 and 44 when they married.
Get a life. It’s a freakin’ song.
God, when do these stupid mis-quotes and urban legends ever end. That song in about Warren Beatty. How do I know its not about Jagger......He’s singing back-up in the damn song!
Are you really that willing to defend your apparent position that the moment one experiences a piece of art does not or should not influence one's feelings again, and differently if they have experienced that piece of art before? Or, is it that the feelings of a person experiencing the art at a given moment are invalid unless they are the same as your memory of your feelings about that art? Sounds progressive... LOL
And as it almost always the case, the "common understanding", mainly from people (like you?) who only know half of the story, at most, is WRONG WRONG WRONG.
Jagger and Richards had NOTHING to do with the whole Bittersweet Symphony controversy. NOTHING. Please do some research so your "common understanding" of the situation can be more accurate.
I think you’ve just lost the plot.
I asked you if you saw the Stones last night, that’s all. And I’m soooooooooo sorry you had to hear Under My Thumb again. I saw Streisand in concert recently and didn’t exactly want to hear “Evergreen.” But there you have it. Stars never listen to me.
Here's the real guy. Check out that come-hither look, Miss M.
Nice looking man. Maria always reminded me of Marjorie Main.
They could have been a little more outspoken about it if they disagreed with the lawsuit.
My band played a wedding once where the groom requested it. I stopped dead in my tracks and asked, "Really?!" He was pretty insistent on it so we played it. My singer couldn't help but camp it up a bit to emphasize the lyrics ;')
Hm. Don’t take this the wrong way, but to put it most tactfully, your posts on many threads often contain hint-dropping about your knowledge of artists. So why shy from a discussion of how a piece of art can affect the same hearer differently in different contexts? You laid down a snap negative judgment and now don’t want me to clarify what was a really simple, surprisingly impactful experience of one piece of art for me at one moment in time.
Did Jagger or Richards speak out about the whole thing given their financial interest in the outcome?
Nope.
Oh, please. Listen to music any way you want to. And interpret it any way you want to. But you started this mess by posting a vanity crying that Mr. Mick upset you by singing Under My Thumb right after his girlfriend committed suicide. Others, besides me, thought this was silly beyond belief.
I am now going to listen to my Sonny & Cher greatest hits album and cry over “I Got You, Babe.” That divorced bitch still sings it in concert and I get angry every time she does it.
Unbelieveable! Doesn’t anyone pick up on the ominous tone of the instrumental role in the song? Forget the lyrics for a minute and listen to that music. It’s a superb song, I think.
By any chance, do you think he was sending a message to his bride?
