Burying the lines does not help. These are geomagnetic currents. A few feet of dirt is "skin deep" to currents that low in frequency.

Google "Russian EMP" and find out what happened to their power plant after a nuclear test.

Thank You ... Am normally wrong and am then corrected. One question ... if the substations remained above ground with a breaker to trip at the first sign of a surge would that help the situation?
