We have to dismiss rational thought when dealing with suicidal people, which is not generally a rational act.

I don't see why suicidal people would not be also capable of rational thoughts about other subjects.-Tom

If the guy was suicidal, the natural thought process people have is, “Just kill yourself by crashing the plan right away.” The irrational guy puts on the auto pilot, disables the crew, and goes on the long slow ride.
