Manchester United were dealt arguably the toughest draw in the Champions League quarter-finals when they were picked to play holders and five-times European top dogs Bayern Munich.
Bayern, with former Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola at the helm, are tearing up the Bundesliga with a current advantage of 23 points over second and are looking to become the first team to defend their Champions League crown.
By contrast three-times European champions United are down in uncharted waters at seventh in the league table, 18 points adrift of leaders Chelsea who drew Paris St Germain in the last eight of Europe's top club competition.

Bayern, PSG, Real, Atletico
Bayern 6-1 United
Chelsea 2-1 PSG
Real Madrid 4-4 Dortmund (on penalties. This will be a much better tie than everyone thinks.)
Barcelona 5-3 Atletico
As an Everton fan, I am taking great joy in this.
I will say my “2” for Man U assumes Van Persie is available. Haven’t heard an update on his injury yet. Without him, they’ll be lucky to get 1 in two matches.
Briefly changing sports....DOWN GOES DUKE!
Bayern/PSG/Atletico/Real
Sweet! Makes my weekend start off great!
I agree. And with Mata cup-tied, there would be no one to play the number ten role occupied this week by Rooney, which is the only way United looks the least bit dangerous in the final third.
Understandable. They call him “Dithering Dave” for a reason.
BTW, over on Twitter, excellent trolling job by @FoxSoccer:
Europe’s best clubs, plus Manchester United, drawn into captivating Champions League quarterfinals, by @LeanderOnFOX foxs.pt/1oFzvLu
LOL
That hurts. I’ve been a United guy for about 25 years now. But it’s still funny.
Ouch. Van Persie out 4-6 weeks.

The @FoxSoccer feed is definitely run by someone with a sense of humor. Back in the fall, when there was an NFL game in London, they posted a score update from Wembley where some team called the “49ers” scored a goal... seven of them, actually, if the score line could be believed.
I love that kind of dry, tongue-in-cheek stuff.
van Persie is out for about a month or more which might kill MU’s momentum coming off that come-from-behind victory (Aggregate).
The old FSC/FSN did a great job differentiating itself from the Fox NFL coverage. They understand social media too.
Beat me to that one
The only thing keeping Moyes from (figuratively) slitting his wrists right now is that if MU manages to even keep things reasonably competitive against Bayern without RVP, he might parlay that into keeping his job a while longer. Whereas a sold beating wen fielding a generally healthy squad might mean an early summer vacation.
Fergie didn’t exactly do all that great his first few years.
Frankly, I don’t know even with Fergie if they would have been much better this year.
The problem is United got themselves into debt up to their eyeballs and they are getting old.
