Manchester United were dealt arguably the toughest draw in the Champions League quarter-finals when they were picked to play holders and five-times European top dogs Bayern Munich.
Bayern, with former Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola at the helm, are tearing up the Bundesliga with a current advantage of 23 points over second and are looking to become the first team to defend their Champions League crown.
By contrast three-times European champions United are down in uncharted waters at seventh in the league table, 18 points adrift of leaders Chelsea who drew Paris St Germain in the last eight of Europe's top club competition.

Berlin — German prosecutors said Monday they won't appeal the tax fraud verdict against football legend Uli Hoeness, former boss of powerhouse Bayern Munich, freeing the way for his jail term to begin.
Hoeness, 62, who spent four decades at the champion club, will in coming weeks start a three-and-a-half-year prison sentence handed down by a court last Thursday, which he has also said he will not contest.
The Bayern chief is currently due to serve his term in Landsberg prison in southern Bavaria state, prosecution spokesman Ken Heidenreich told AFP.
That is the jail where Adolf Hitler wrote "Mein Kampf" while serving a sentence for treason after the failed 1923 Beer Hall Putsch uprising in Munich.
To win the CL, Man U was likely going to have to get through any 3 of Bayern, Real Madrid, PSG, Chelsea, Barcelona, or Altetico Madrid - it’s not like there was an “easy” road for them in any event.
Much like Chelsea a couple of years ago, Man U has to win the CL or face not only not qualifying for the CL next year, but they’re not in good position for the Europa League, even. Unlike that Chelsea squad, I don’t think they’re deep enough or have gelled as a squad to pull it off.
I’ll take Bayern 6-2 Man U, Chelsea 3-1 PSG, Real Madrid 5-0 Dortmund, and Alteltico Madrid 3-3 (away) Barcelona.
Yeah, Man U shouldn’t even be where it is now, given their performances this season.
Not sure PSG will roll over for Chelsea.
On the other hand, with the likes of Rooney and Van Persie, they are still a dangerous opponent, as we saw this week. Their problem is that they’re capable of beating just about anyone at any time, but that they can’t do it consistently enough this year.
Not saying they’re going to roll over, I just don’t see how they’re going to score enough. Chelsea’s defense should be scaring everybody right now. (Their offense, on the other hand...)

I think generally (but not always) great players don't make great coaches/GMs/execs. But Bayern's front office always seems to have several.

It kind of puts hardship in perspective for Red Devil fans which I’m certainly not.
Sorry, didn’t see your post anyway, MUFC has lost to Bayern Munich two times in recent years under Sir Alex. So, there’s not much to expect here, Moyes may have them playing the matches of their careers.
Maybe they can bring back Solskaer and Sheringham.
Chelsea won it a few years ago, even though they finished out of the Top 4. Spurs fans were not happy.
