I don't know what a lot of people think, but I never thought that alcoholism was a disease.
I was only nine or ten years old at the time, and I remember the "public service announcement" ads very well.
Even as a kid, I thought it sounded bogus, but I couldn't lay my finger on exactly why. I couldn't articulate it as I can now, fifty years later.
It sounded like rot to me though, and I had a suspicion that it would lead to problems later.
I had a couple of alcoholic family members (uncles, much older) and I knew darn well that they weren't "sick." They just liked to get good and schnockered.
