The highly anticipated next installment of the "Star Wars" franchise will be set 30 years after "Episode VI: Return of the Jedi," Walt Disney Co.'s chief executive officer Bob Iger said on Tuesday at the company's annual shareholders meeting.
Disney purchased "Star Wars" production company LucasFilm for $4.05 billion in 2012 and announced it would release three new films in the popular sci-fi series. Fans have been avidly awaiting details of the next film, "Star Wars: Episode VII."

Iger did not reveal any casting news, other than to confirm the return of the robot character R2D2.So that makes it what...about 100 years old?
They must not have union auto workers in the future.

The official Star Wars website posted on Monday the new films would feature "a trio of new young leads along with some very familiar faces,"... Probably Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart...and Ben Affleck as Darth Hideous. :)

I am excited about these, but they’d kind of have to since in real life Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford (as well as Bill D. W.) have aged.
They are all supposed to return as well.

Star Wars 30 years later?
Vader - dead
Skywalker - retired, can only move small objects, can change the TV without getting up
Leah - living in Florida...double hip replacement
Han Solo - killed by Chewie over a chess match
R2D2 - spare parts bin

I watched episode 2 recenty.. it was absolutely awful.. the dialogue was terrible... cool idea, good story line.. bad script. I was surprised how bad it was... I had remembered liking it when it came out.

One of the problems that they're going to run into is keeping consistency with the books, which were all officially approved and are considered canon.
Big issue being that Leia evolves into a Jedi Knight in the books, while Carrie Fisher evolved into a Hutt in real-life. Hopefully they've had her spending LOTS of time at a gym, cutting down on the bon-bons and otherwise doing things to loose a good deal of weight. Because all the CGI in the world still wouldn't be enough ...
