I pray that God would reveal his plan for my life. Right now it’s a shambles. Wife left, only child (adopted) living with her natural mother, attorney lost his license to practice law, and about tapped me out monetarily.
Life is my work, work is my life. God doesn’t seem to listen, and nothing else seems to matter.
So work. Then go out and help people that would appreciate having you around to help.
Housing hope may be the answer, or there’s a branch of that which provides temporary shelter for families where both parents are out of work and the family needs a place to stay until one of them finds work.
It could be anything, but NOTHING is better than going out and helping people that appreciate being helped.
Helping at a Children’s hospital for a couple of hours on a weekend will change your perspective. Watch some kid with burns on over fifty percent of his body find the ability to laugh at jokes his Dad is teling him over the phone.
Then you’ll hear Him say, “I know where you are. I know what you need. Feed my sheep. My yoke is light.”
He will find you where you are.
Get the focus off of you and your situation, and help those less fortunate. Right now, the illusion is that nobody could (at the moment) be less fortunate than you.
Volunteer at a VA Hospital, and see if that adds some data to your analysis. You will be a hero to them. A hero.
There are women looking for good men out there. Many of good women are out doing the same thing you are - helping people who need it.
Start small - do one significant thing to help somebody other than you that takes an hour or more. One small project. See how you feel walking away from that.
One unexpected benefit of that is that eventually your daughter will make their own decisions about who they want to spend their time with, and they will keep tabs on what you do and who you are. If the way you live doesn’t jibe with the way your wife SAYS you live, it won’t matter, because in the end they can believe your wife, or their own lying eyes.
Read Matthew Chapter 6, the entire chapter. It all applies. It will make you feel better immediately, but you’ve got to seek first God, then ALL THESE THINGS will happen unto you.
God is in the sick. God is in the children. God is in the mentally ill. God is the weak. God is in the hungry.
You have your work. You have everything.
Now go find God, and speak with Him.
He will shock you in His response. You will be overwhelmed and shamed. If you are like me, you’ll forget about His generosity and go on living like I am the most important person to worry about again.
You are not. God’s people are. Take care of them with your time and your enthusiasm and He will pave mountains from your path. Ranges of mountains.
I have seen this with my own eyes, yet I continue to focus only on myself.
Don’t be like me, if you can help it.
