2014 Republican gubernatorial candidate Tom Hoefling today challenged incumbent Governor Terry Branstad to a series of five debates in the run up to the June 3rd primary.
His proposal includes four smaller events hosted and organized by willing county GOP organizations within the four congressional districts, and would culminate in a large venue debate hosted by the state party. Any proceeds would be split proportionally between the various party organizations participating, for use in electing local Republicans in November. Moderation would be provided by the state and county party chairmen.
Hoefling said, I think Building Iowas Future, which is Terry Branstads campaign theme, is the right focus for debate. But I also think that the people of Iowa deserve to hear both candidates in this primary explain fully what they think that future should look like.
He added, If Governor Branstad does not find this reasonable, constructive proposal to be acceptable, I am willing to debate any time, anywhere in the state, under any circumstance.

We have watched you be dishonest, evasive, slippery, and the grubbiest kind of political operator here, for many years.
In recent years it was your Alan Keyes third party cooked up that was going to sweep the nation, now we find out that you are a republican again.
We get to watch you running for president, and now Governor, and you will continue playing the same old games.
Why don’t you call Palin and ask her for her endorsement, just do it before she sees your antiPalin trolling that you did here for years.
So, what are you doing in your state to shake up the status quo?
Curious.
Is there any polling data out showing how the race is currently viewed by the electorate? If so can you provide a link or the stats? Thanks.
I’m not running for President of the United States, and Governor, and trolling against Governor Palin.
Yeah. There’s a PPP poll that included my name. My name ID is still very low. I think it was 12%. With 11% support. But I was in a statistical dead heat with the Democrat, with both of us in the low thirties.
No doubt, Branstad’s numbers are very high. He’s the most powerful and successful politician in our state’s history.
But obviously, for many reasons, I believe this undertaking is worthwhile anyhow, no matter the final outcome.
I’m sorry that you can’t differentiate between trolling and having honest disagreements with your favorite politician’s positions and policies.
Thanks. That will give you some base line to see if you
can motivate the electorate during the next 2 1/2 months.
Exactly. Thanks.
You have been trolling against Palin since she first went national in 2008.
Now you are the Presidential/Governor/ perennial candidate, one party then the other party, kind of guy.
I’ve never trolled Palin. Ever.
I’ve simply disagreed with her.
Again, I’m sorry that you don’t know the difference.
But I could make a case that you are trolling this thread.
Too bad your posting history says different, including the articles that you posted, you were going after Palin at least as early as September of 2008.
You might remember that for years you saw her support here as a threat to Alan Keyes, as he was searching for a job, and like you, he thought president was a good place to start in elective office.
Also like you, he would search around for a party to run for, from election to election.
Wow, you were even going at her in the newsletter from that third party you used to support and write for, before you rejected them.
VERY GOOD! If I were Branstad I’d be happy to schedule 5 debates if I was outside looking in.
I didn’t reject anything.
You simply don’t understand the new model we have built. Because you won’t quit attacking me long enough to listen.
I thought you rejected that third party, and became a republican?
That “third party” has never been what you think it is.
But you’ve never listened.
Classic EV, slipping and sliding all around.
You dumped that party and became a republican, didn’t you?
Being the sane, modest man that you are, you ran for President as head of a political party, that you credited yourself as helping to build, this time only months later, you want to run for Governor as an anti-Palin republican.
