On April 8, 2014, support and updates for Windows XP will no longer be available. Don't let your PC go unprotected.
What is Windows XP end of support? Microsoft has provided support for Windows XP for the past 12 years. But now the time has come for us, along with our hardware and software partners, to invest our resources toward supporting more recent technologies so that we can continue to deliver great new experiences.
As a result, after April 8, 2014, technical assistance for Windows XP will no longer be available, including automatic updates that help protect your PC. Microsoft will also stop providing Microsoft Security Essentials for download on Windows XP on this date. (If you already have Microsoft Security Essentials installed, you will continue to receive antimalware signature updates for a limited time, but this does not mean that your PC will be secure because Microsoft will no longer be providing security updates to help protect your PC.)
If you continue to use Windows XP after support ends, your computer will still work but it might become more vulnerable to security risks and viruses. Also, as more software and hardware manufacturers continue to optimize for more recent versions of Windows, you can expect to encounter greater numbers of apps and devices that do not work with Windows XP.
What does it mean if my version of Windows is no longer supported?
Which version of Windows am I running?

Can’t you just go to Microsoft for your SP3, that is where I got it just weeks ago.
I’m not clear on what you are doing, if you have legal XP then you just load it and update it.
Does the “virtual box” change that?
Ah, that brings back some memories.
You can remove those tiles also.
If you notice that arrow at the bottom left of the tiles and click on it, it will take you to the complete list of programs, if you unpin a tile from start, it moves to that list and you can replace it anytime you want.
The only tiles I have showing, are what amount to my desktop icons, I keep my desktop bare, and click on the tiles if I need to open a program.
Do you boot directly to desktop?
The METRO Squares Spamming would not mean much to most but to those on dial up {still the only connect means available for some of us} it uses up needed download speed. I've had the computer a week and a half and been on line about four days. I'm still working my way through trying to make it useable and somewhat recognizable. Increased Clock Font size would be real great also.
I'm having to take a lot of extra steps to do what was simple on XP. BTW yes I have Classic Shell installed now also. That helped matters a great deal too. The ability to put on what XP was called Quick Launch is gone. Some things will Pin there some wont. For an Email program I'm using eMail Client free version. With W-8 default mail program you do not get an Icon Prompt for incoming mail. eMail Client download from Downloads.com has an Icon notification. W8 is missing a lot useful long standing functions IMO.
I don’t use apps with ads.
There’s a cool little freeware program called Launchy that makes launching programs and files and folders very quick and easy. You might want to check that out.
Thanks.
Until next month when MS stops responding and that effectively voids all software that I've been purchasing in good faith. I'm thinking that the only way I'll be able to use what I paid for is to get a fileshare copy that has the authentication disabled. What we got here is that MS steals my purchase money from me by refusing to deliver and then when I make it work in spite of their theft they call it 'illegal'.
Does the virtual box change that?
Not really, when you run virtualbox you create an old desktop w/ whatever you want, and then when you 'run' the virtual machine you see a new window on your desktop that looks just like the one you used 15 years ago. It's just as easy (and just as tedious) as the real thing only there's no heavy lifting. I use it to run old games --I got a virtual windows 3.11 that runs Myst perfectly.
I don’t know what you are saying, now your software is going to be void?
If you are doing what I did a few weeks ago and just doing a re installment of XP, then I don’t get what your posts are about.
