It is cloudy, cold and the wind is strong enough that I don’t want to drive my 4x4 over the hills to the store-which I will have to do sooner or later if I want some meat to cook for dinner-there are lots of huge doves hanging out at my bird feeder, but hunting is not allowed in this neighborhood...

Yes, we’re all that, ROR! P.Allen Smith loves them too and has his own coop. So does Tom Brady(yes, that guy but I doubt he does the caretaking himself or lets Giselle dirty her hands).

The basement chickens survived their first night outside. Things are looking good. It was into the 20s last night.

Did you have the heater going and the plastic up for them?

Some plastic yes. No heater. They’re hearty. The heater is for when it’s cold, like 10. We don’t have one installed in the new coop yet.

Was telling xshub about yinz, he was amazed. I am more than a little skeeved by chickens. Would pretty much be afraid of them pecking my eyes out and would have no idea how to deal with them w/I touching them. I’m a pansy I’m afraid : ( but I’m totes excited to make the homemade salve!

Xshub is a saint. He’s driving xsboy back as we speak. The odds look good for the AM flight being canceled and xsboy was not comfortable missing Monday classes. Not cool to miss first day after break. And he had excused absences but missed the weds and thurs before break bc of the tourney. I was able to send food with him which I wasn’t going to be able to do if he flew.

I don’t do a whole lot of hands on stuff with the chickens. You have to rememner that it is different when you have raised them from chicks. They know you.

It would be more intimidating to try to walk up to an pick up a 5 lb chicken you don’t know.

Speaking of FLEURYs... What in the HELL were the penguins doing? Rolling over twice to ask the flyers to scratch their bellies? Way to do the Caps dirty, we need the flyers to lose.

I’m blaming injuries. Now Neal is out indefinitely with a concussion.

He got it while playing the Caps but wasn’t diagnosed for a couple days.

And Kunitz is hurt too.

Danny says injuries are no excuse. Cutie pie that he is. Did you know he had a cameo on say yes to the dress?? No idea what that was about, saw it on twitter.

They are really good pets. One of mine was handled more as a chick, the other 2 not so much but I made it a point when I got them at 4-7 months of age to handle them as often as possible. As a result, they are docile and friendly. They would KILL for a raisin so that’s an easy way to control behavior. If one gets out of the run I just shake the little box and call her and she comes running.

It’s cold here and wet. I am so tired of winter. The chooks were only out of their coop a few times today, by their choice. Too rainy.
