"Carnival sought to make amends by offering each passenger a $500 check, a voucher for a future cruise, refunds of most on-board expenses and reimbursement for transportation, parking and other expenses."

Seems fair to me. In the end, they had 5 days of bad plumbing and bad smells while drifting in perfect Gulf weather for 5 days.

I remember seeing a lot of them interviewed by the media as they go off the ship and calling it an “adventure” or “memorable”.

The cruise line offer was fair.

The conditions were hell unless you managed to secure enough food/water and hide in your balcony stateroom with the door wide open. Also remember that many cruisers are seniors and kids who are far from hardy or cooperative when things go south.

Bad plumbing leads to disease in such close quarters. “Bad smells” does not begin to describe a place soaked in raw sewage for days.

However, if Carnival is found to have followed all the rules I don’t think plaintiffs should get anything besides a refund, reimbursement for vacation time and medical treatment.
