Some Californian moved down the street from my folks in AZ, with a bunch of cats that they let roam free, just as you say. The only problem is, in that part of the country, the neighbors don’t need to shoot feral cats, because the wildlife takes care of them.
Within a week, the lady was putting up “Missing Cat” flyers. I’m not sure if anybody had the heart to tell her that they were bobcat feed by that time.
That’s what I like about cats. One day, they just don’t come home. And they aren’t actionable like a dog.
