Are they easygoing dogs? We adopted a hunting dog from a family member who lost her home. That dog was quite a challenge--smart, resourceful, fearless, friendly and not in the least shy, it was nothing for him to jump the 5-foot chain link fence and cruise around the neighborhood, terrorizing everyone in sight who didn't know that he was a sweet and cheerful dog (he was pretty rangy and weighed between 90-100 lbs.). At least we got to know a lot of the neighbors when he took off on his jaunts.
He finally stopped escaping when Mr. Sg put up an electrified fence and put one of those collars on him. He eventually became too old to easily jump the fence, but he'd deliberately wear out the battery on the collar by sitting as close to the fence as he could stand it. Smart, tough doggie.
