YORK COUNTY, SC — Alice Renee McGlone says her cats Rhett Butler and Tara will have to go on without Scarlett –– her 9-year-old Labrador retriever –– after a York County Sheriff’s Office deputy shot and killed the dog when, he says, it charged him aggressively on Tuesday.

McGlone’s friend Ron Montana buried Scarlett on Wednesday afternoon in her backyard, under a tree, on Clara Street in Rock Hill. Montana and McGlone say they’re outraged that the deputy used lethal force.

But, sheriff’s officials say the deputy had no choice but to protect himself from the dog.

“He hated to have done what he did but we teach our officers that they need to protect themselves in all situations,” said Capt. Allen Brandon. “It’s regrettable what happened.”

“Funny you should say that *she’s* a Firearms Training Unit Detective, Barbara J. Mattson of the Connecticut State Police. Go figure. LOL”

Probably testifying how the peasants shouldn’t be allowed to posses “assault” rifles. I notice that “she” and the other Trooper each have three spare pistol mags ready to go.

Reed wrote, “I instinctively drew my handgun and fired once, striking the dog in the top of the head.”

By his own admission he wasn't even thinking. Just automatically whipped up his gun and fired. That is just disturbing. Whenever this guy feels threatened he shoots. According to him.

That is what they are being trained to do, per the famous “no hesitation” targets.

No LEO has been killed by a dog in the past 50 years.

How fascinating, how desperate you are to paint the dog in a bad light.

Why are you scared of the truth? The dog had prompted animal control in the past and has a history of violence against people. And it charged at the police officer. Connect the dots.

You think a Black Lab is a “wild feral beast”??? Are you a cop groupie or just scared of dogs? I will rephrase that. Are you a trigger-happy goon, or just a coward? Either way, I can read and think much more clearly than you and your phobias.

Scared of the truth?

That a police officer, who had the ability to retreat, shot and killed a dog which did not?

Why are you so desperate to defend a government employee?
