I am married to a Filipina, so am familiar with this situation. There is not much work there, except for overseas nanny-type work. A lot of the women pay a huge fee to an agency to become employed. I see it basically as selling yourself into slavery. Some of the “fees” that are charged by the agencies amount to an entire year salary. If they are working in the US, then they do have some rights. All bets are off overseas. My wife had a niece that was in a similar situation. I don’t think that there is a lot that can be done, other than to find out which agency she works for and report them to the Commission on Filipinos Overseas. See link below.
