I never want to see Jesus again.
Not in a movie, at least. Not after sitting through two hours and 18 minutes of Son of God, the latest tragedy about the life of Jesus and the acting career of Roma Downey, the onetime Touched By An Angel star who, in addition to playing Mary, produced the film with her husband, Mark Burnett.
Having watched some of History Channels The Bible, the 10-hour mini series from which most of Son of God was pieced together, I already knew Jesus Starring Roma Downey wasnt going to be great. (Nothing starring Roma Downey has ever been great.) But still, I went to the theater praying for the best, hoping Jesus might not be terrible. But alas, Gods only son was terrible; the story, the dialogue, the acting, the non-miraculous special effectsall pretty terrible. Sometimes it was SyFy Channel-terrible. Son of God is so awful that it borders on godlessnot sinful or heretical, just lacking true Spirit.
Which is why Im officially done watching Jesus movies. Because Im pretty sure Ive seen every single Jesus movie made since 1960. No, Im not a biblical film connoisseur by choice; I was just raised in a cave by Baptists who, upon purchasing a VCR in 1985, only watched movies that were produced by Disney, loosely based on Bible stories, or called Ben-Hur.
Consequently, Ive watched a lot of Jesus movies in my day. And frankly, none of them are exactly great.
The first movie I can remember watching was The Greatest Story Ever Told, the 1965 biblical epic starring Charlton Heston as the shapeshifter, John the Baptist. At times, Heston appears more werewolf than human, which ended up being the best part of the film.

“Can you point to the specific parts of the movie which reveal a new age, non Christian message?”
Satan was cut out of the movie. How can a Christian message be accurately protrayed without a deliverance message? Jesus started His earthly ministry by defeating satan in the desert after a 40 day fast. This Jesus was calmly walking through the desert without explanation.
Key verses were ‘edited.’ “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life” did not include “No man comes to the Father, but through Me.”
The cross was in the movie, but the message of John 3:16 was not. “For God so loved the World, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him will not perish, but have everlasting life.”
Jesus was not identified as God’s ONLY begotten Son and that He is the ONLY to salvation. Jesus is portrayed as a son of God, not THE SON of God.
During the previews for Son of Man they showed scenes from a Kevin Sorbo movie called “God Isn’t Dead” or something like that. He’s an atheist professor (lost his faith maybe when a kid died) who makes the students accept that God is dead and a Christian kid has to prove him wrong.
There are some great Jesus movies. Passion of the Christ is one of the greatest movies ever made. Zefferelli’s “Jesus of Nazareth” was very good. And while Jesus only makes a cameo appearance in “The Robe” is is a Christian movie and was very good.
they are poorly produced because they don’t have to be well done to make a profit. a 1/2 posterior job is good enough to sell to the idiot crowd that does not demand better.
Why do they always use gentile actors?
JOHN 3:16
You can praise whomever you wish, just know whom you are praising.
“You can praise whomever you wish, just know whom you are praising.”
Amen. One Way - JESUS.
I agree. In my book, Jesus of Nazareth is far and away the best Jesus movie ever.
The Jesus Film is a film (Jesus Film Project) that has been translated in umpteen languages. After 35 years, it has now been remastered, digitally enhanced frame-by-frame, and has a new moving, symphonic soundtrack. I have used this movie for years for my Sunday School Classes, church showings and kids’ church. Documented salvation from the showing of the film.
RE: Why do they always use gentile actors?
Maybe Jewish actors object to portraying Jesus? Maybe Jewish actors object to films portraying Jews as demanding the crucifixion of an innocent man?
The movie may be following the Synoptic Gospels, Mark, Luke and Matthew more than the Gospel of John. There is a variety of books to fall back on.
Jesus picked Peter who denied him 3 times. Guess he was up to God’s standards.
“Jesus picked Peter who denied him 3 times. Guess he was up to Gods standards.”
Jesus uses those who have a heart towards Him.
God knew Peters’ heart and Peter repented. Downey continues with her New Age studies and repents nothing.
Alright, please submit proof of this since the Bible series came out.
And of course, Matthew was reviled as being a dishonest tax collector, Paul persecuted Christians.
Roma Downey and Mark Burnetts Son of God Film
As a USM [University of Santa Monica] graduate, I know firsthand the value I received from participating with Ron and Mary in the Masters degree Program in Spiritual Psychology. I am so grateful to have Loyalty to Your Soul to sweetly remind me of all I have learned. Lets just say that I went from playing an angel on TV to living more of an angelic life every day. The teachings in this beautiful book have sent me on a journey to the very center of my own being where, wrapped in the safe wings of Love, I feel as though I have come home.
do you think hollywood Jews care about their religion?
