LeBron James knows that what's in the best interest of the NBA is usually in his best interest, which probably is why he complied with the league's request to wear a clear mask to protect his broken nose Saturday night rather than the cooler-looking black one he wore Thursday.
As long as its transparent," James said of the mask. "As long as they can see my face ... my opponents. Just as long as its not black."

From what I was reading, it had to do with the inability of other players to read his eyes/expression during the game. Kudos to him for not being a brat about it.

in post 17 I advance a Marketing Oriented Solution to this problem that evidently escaped thet Giant Minds in the NBA..his team ..and personal management
Team Colors....resulting in an ITEM which could have been rather successfully marketed

Your suggestion doesn’t look worse than any other choices. Maybe a “Hello Kitty” theme would be disarming ... it works for my 2-year-old, the Tiny Pink Queen of Evil.

I can understand the NBA request...
How many different colored mask will the league allow?
Can a player with a broken nose wear a red, yellow, green, blue, orange, purple mask to match their team colors or their hair......
Make it one standard: clear...
Any potential issue go away...
NBA has LOTS of other issues besides playing arbitrary fashion designer...
Biggest issue is how do they get me to watch their version of thug basketball...

allegedly to protect his broken nose from further damage
I still think a Team Colors Mask would have been quite a hit!

There was a time when NHL goalies didn't wear helmets or masks. Hard to believe.
And check out the catcher's stance in this old baseball photo. This stance was common into the twenties.

Given that FOotball players all wear Helmets adorn with Team Logos...Id suggest that limiting players on any given team to wearing perhaps similarly adorned faces masks in Basketball would solve any potential problems and given them all an added “revenue stream”
what kid In the USA hasnt bout a pair of AIR NIKES?
a series of similarly marketed Face Masks could have been a Goldmine

Oh man. You can’t make this stuff up.

I think an unspoken point the NBA really doesn't want to be discussed in reference to players wearing a black mask is the fact the urban "youts" will emulate their team players on the street by wearing team masks and escalate the inner city urban street thug problems even more..
Just think how many lives have been lost over a pair of sneakers...
