To free from slavery.
Example sentence:
"George Washington always intended to manumit those of his slaves who were his own to free (as opposed to the 'dower slaves' from his wife's estate) and he did free them in his will."

Etymology:
From Latin manus (hand) + mittere (to let go). Ultimately from the Indo-European root man- (hand), which also gave us manual, manage, maintain, manicure, maneuver, manufacture, manuscript, command, manure,manque, legerdemain, and mortmain. Earliest documented use: 1455.

It is 39 here, the sun is out, and a couple of warmer days predicted before more cold. It was 27 last night, so the drizzle from yesterday turned to patches of ice on the deck and flagstone path, so Husky girl and I walked in the grass at 6-it is all melted now...
Modern-day Kanamits are not about to manumit the American people from their yoke ...

One of the customers I did an estimate for told me she was going on a cruise-I couldn’t believe how excited she was about something that has become guaranteed to be annoying and likely dangerous. I wanted to say you aren’t really going to willingly board a Klingon prison ship and pay for it, are you, but instead I just said that is lovely. I can only conclude that she never goes on the internet, or watches TV, bless her little heart...
You do realize not all trailer park folks end up with a tornado in their living rooms? ;-)
