As he lay bleeding on a downtown Kansas City street, newlywed Anthony Bruno mouthed Dont let me die to a bystander who had rolled him on his back to check two gunshot wounds.
On the pavement nearby, Police Officer Donald Hubbard felt himself drifting in and out of consciousness. Blood dripped from his broken and battered face. He tried to get up but fell back.
The bystander, who happened to be a critical care nurse in a hospital trauma unit, could not find Brunos pulse. She asked Hubbard to apply pressure to Brunos wounds while she began chest compressions. Hubbard crawled to her as sirens sounded in the distance, according to documents released Tuesday by police.
Soon an arriving police officer asked what direction the gunman had fled.
Hubbard looked up.
I shot him, he said.
Multiple witnesses described elements of that scene to investigators trying to piece together what led to an off-duty Kansas City police officer fatally shooting an off-duty Kansas City firefighter who had been celebrating his November wedding in the early hours of Dec. 1....

You don't know what I have done. The only think clear about your post is that you view things from you navel because your head is so far up your ass.
You're right. I don't know what you have done.
But I do know what you haven't done.
I guess if I step back and look at this from another perspective:
.
The firefighter may not have recognized the cop as having any authority to touch him.
If I’m not mistaken, the cop is in a security guard uniform.
What if “Dead Guy” thought he was dealing with a security guard and had No Authority to touch him?
Still, the cop is on duty 24 hours and retains police power.
And he made a stupid submission move by coming over the top of the guy, who then turned the cop on his back.
Still, if yer gonna get in a fight with anyone and they have a gun, you better be damned sure and win.
Consequence of action and the cop was messed up.
I don’t think his head even bounce when Dead Guy hit him.
Looks more like his fist sunk into to his soft head.
Dunno.
Maybe cop coulduh called for backup first and waited it out with a drunk guy.
I know I never liked fighting drunk A-holes.
Last guy I got in a fight with, 8 years ago, was real drunk.
Really shouldn’t drink as he usually gets aggressive.
I knocked out his two front teeth and cracked his jaw but, suffered a spiral fracture when I wasn’t paying attention and he got his mits on me.
Didn’t end well for him and his only real flaw was hitting me in the head.
I usually have a very violent allergic reaction, like eating puffer fish or sumpin.
I usually blow off being hit in the shoulders, stomach or back but, head shot and it’s game on.
Dain Bwamage is permanent, death is forever.
This ain’t high school...
I do wonder why the sissies in the video and the Man, masquerading as a girl, didn’t help.
Sad all around. I won’t even kill a bee. I just pick em up and put em outside. They’re lost.
All things in this world are dangerous but, not all things are presently dangerous to me.
A cop is still a cop when off-duty. He was responding to a complaint, and the firefighter, who was drunk, commenced beating the crap out of the cop. The cop wound up in the hospital with severe head wounds. The firefighter was well on the way to beating the cop to death, had the cop not shot him.

It’s certainly valid to point out that the guy’s friends should have jumped in and separated the two. They probably would have saved his life.
I’d like to see more of the other videos but, the grand jury “no billed”.
I’m guessing the other witnesses corroborate the LEO story and confirm the escalation of events.
Stupid all around and prolly could have been handled differently if the cop were in his regular uniform or waited for more blue.
Maybe cop coulduh called for backup first and waited it out with a drunk guy.
I know I never liked fighting drunk A-holes.
= = = = = = = = =
I was thinking perhaps the cop knew the guy was a fire fighter and was trying to ‘give him a break’ and not get anyone else involved.
Maybe because of the BS that has been going on recently but I find that headline (though true) to be more than a little inciting.
For what it is worth I think it was probably justified but amazing to see people that thought the ‘White Hispanic’ should be completely exonerated (I fit in there, thinking he was justified (in the long run) want to hang this particular cop.
In KCMO, the police officers are allowed to work off duty as security guards, and they wear their standard duty uniforms. The only way the public would know they're security guards is that they spend far more time at a location than they'd be able to had they been on duty.
As such, if a KCMO cop sees a crime being committed while in uniform, they are expected to intervene.

Celebrating....early hours.....
Should have been home with his new wife.
No doubt. I don’t know that his “friends” were there but, if they were, they are responsible for this trajedy.
At least morally.
Unless they know him to be a proven jackass and felt safer letting someone else deal with him.
Who knows.
As I think this over the firefighter was an all around A-hole that night and maybe the off duty cop, in his Paul Blartt uniform, really should have waited for more blue.
That bit of coming over the top near the end was a lame ass move.
I don’t understand why cops aren’t taught submission moves.
When I was in college, studying Police Science(whatever that meant), in self defense we were taught arm locks and submission moves.
I had the luck of already wrestled in JR and High School, some Aikido and Kung Fu and three younger brothers.
I won against men twice my age, who looked like they were going to kill me if they got a hold of me.
slip, block to an angle, push, grab and twist.
“Stop or I hand you the end of whatever I got a hold of”...
No, but going to "ground and pound" to the point where the cop needed facial reconstructive surgery IS!
Mark
I don’t know that I want to hang him, much less give him an out.
In hindsight, I can say he “could” have waited for more blue.
But, was he stopping something of some urgency or exigency? If so, he did what he could and may have felt out of place without his proper uniform.
Bottom line though, is the firefighter had already proven himself to be physically aggressive and sadly he continued his Boo Chit, Broke a guy’s face up and lost his life for it.
I do wonder about perhaps the mistake of confusion by the Paul Blartt uniform.
You are mistaken. KCPD officers wear their duty uniform and side arm while working security while off-duty. And if they witness a crime, they're required to intervene.
Mark
Looks more like his fist sunk into to his soft head.
Dunno.
The cop needed facial reconstructive surgery and did lose consciousness at the scene, after shooting the firefighter.
Mark
He wasn't out celebrating alone. He was with his wife and friends.
Mark
Yes, that’s what I was thinking too.
Oh, and btw, don’t know what evidence was presented, but I’d want more than the wife’s assertion that her husband wasn’t drunk.
They really needed to just brink the passed out cousin back to their hotel with them and let him sleep it off.
I know that would have spoiled the evening, but it would have been better than what ended up happening. A lot better.
I think I’ve repeated the same once or twice in previous posts...
“Doesn’t end well when the guy you are beating has a gun.”
Or even if he doesn’t, because if you do manage, intentionally or otherwise, to beat him to death you might find yourself in a good deal of legal and/or financial jeopardy.
Isn’t the rule: once you’ve won the fight, stop punching?
Based on my observations of the video...
The drunk didn’t deserve to get shot, but...
The cop definitely deserved to defend himself, and with his gun.
I didn’t notice any wrongdoing by the cop. I’m guessing the cop wasn’t aggressive soon enough in order to keep the drunk in control.
I’m gonna have to view this when I get home on my gigantic big screen TV.
I can’t see what uniform he’s wearing on my cell phone.
Here in my area, as most areas, the cops can be employed as guards, off duty and in uniform.
$75 bucks an hour or more depending on the event and one friend donates his money back to the organization he guards for. Well, he did. Now he just rides his Harley around Murica.
Then there are other cops that, for some reason, rent themselves out at $20 per hour and wear whatever uniform the company gives them.
Seems like letting yerself go real cheap for the risk you take without the authority of your real uniform and yer Motorola which will 911 yer buddies with a call for “Officer Down or Assistance”.
Plus, you get to keep the Taser on your off hand hip and favorite brand of Mace when killings too much paper work(that’s just a joke. don’t taze me bro...)
I wouldn’t do it.
