As he lay bleeding on a downtown Kansas City street, newlywed Anthony Bruno mouthed Dont let me die to a bystander who had rolled him on his back to check two gunshot wounds.
On the pavement nearby, Police Officer Donald Hubbard felt himself drifting in and out of consciousness. Blood dripped from his broken and battered face. He tried to get up but fell back.
The bystander, who happened to be a critical care nurse in a hospital trauma unit, could not find Brunos pulse. She asked Hubbard to apply pressure to Brunos wounds while she began chest compressions. Hubbard crawled to her as sirens sounded in the distance, according to documents released Tuesday by police.
Soon an arriving police officer asked what direction the gunman had fled.
Hubbard looked up.
I shot him, he said.
Multiple witnesses described elements of that scene to investigators trying to piece together what led to an off-duty Kansas City police officer fatally shooting an off-duty Kansas City firefighter who had been celebrating his November wedding in the early hours of Dec. 1....

Exactly. You are making my point. This guy almost got himself killed because he’s not trained properly. I will say, it’s his superiors or whoever let him out on the street’s fault more.
If he’s a fully-certified law enforcement officer, he’s got all his official powers 24-hours a day, on duty or off.
I’m a belligerent a-hole and I’m causing trouble. You come up to me and tactfully try to get me to calm down. I start punching you in the face.
Can you please tell me a possible protocol that could have been used to cause me to stop punching you in the face?
I read in the story Mr. Guy de Corps Morte had already beat a cab driver and was looking for a world title in kicking ass while drunk
Show me where the off-duty firefighter/newlywed was following his protocol either.
He already started fighting a cab driver. He needed to be arrested. Isn’t that what police officers are supposed to do?
LOL!
I remember that....
Exactly. They guy had already shown that he was a danger to other people. That’s the end of it right there. The moment he became physical with the cop was the moment the cop had a right to shoot.
He was trying to arrest him but the firefighter was resisting arrest.
Are you sure that you are competent enough to post on this forum???
He chased the guy.
Yeah, because the guy assaulted a cabbie.
If your wife was assaulted, would you have been happy if the cop that could have caught the guy let him walk?
In Texas , the Police are never really off duty.
If you are working security, you can still wear your uniform. They are not wearing Security Guard uniforms.
Anybody can make a felony arrest , but only the Police can make a misdemeanor arrest.
I agree with you. The police can't have it both ways, saying that they are the professionals and let them handle it, then acting like a thug and using the police card as a shield. I have see men and women talk a drunk down, without a bit of police training... and a trained police officer cannot? Who needs them then, they just seem to make things worse.
Wow!, sad story.
The video is sobering when you realize these are the last moments of a man’s life.
Drunkenness is a terrible thing.
I would imagine this caused a strain between the two departments.
It could then be asked why do you bother reading his posts. Why do you allow yourself to do it? Just stop.
Never take a fireman to a cop fight.
You do, hopefully, understand that not everyone is going to be cooperative right?
You’ve clearly never dealt with people who cannot be reasoned with because of their intoxication/mental illness/desperation to not be incarcerated, etc., or you wouldn’t make such a statement. Once a person cannot be reasoned with and is violent, things go downhill fast.
Be glad you’ve never had to deal with this, but do not judge those who do.
I'll take that bet and your gonna' regret. Getting into a bar room fight doesn't warrant getting shot.
“At some point, maybe it was justified, but it looks like incompetence to me. Why police officers now find it optimal to end up killing something is amazing.”

It was pretty clearly a righteous shooting from what I could see in the cellphone video.
If you don’t want to get shot, don’t get into that bar room fight. I have every right to shoot somebody who assaults me.
