Jackson Mayor Chokwe Lumumba has died. He was admitted to St. Dominic Hospital Tuesday morning with chest pains and apparently died there.
We don't have many details, but Hinds County Coroner Sharon Grisham Stewart has confirmed his death.
Lumumba won the Mayor's office in June 4, 2013, pulling 86% of the vote and defeating independent candidates Francis P. Smith, Jr. , Richard C. Williams and Cornelius Griggs.
Mayor Lumumba was born August 2, 1947 in Detroit, Michigan. He is the second of eight children born to Lucien and Priscilla Francis Taliaferro.
Mayor Lumumba earned his Bachelor's degree in Political Science from Kalamazoo College in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
He later finished first in his law school freshman class before graduating cum laude from Wayne State University Law School.

PING!
For all we know, he was an O plant! :-/
Were there thunderstorms in the area?
You reap what you sow....
Thought I was reading about some African country for a second.
I don’t know, but there might have been a drone or two...
The actual Patrice Lumumba was a communist goon being groomed in 1960 to be the Fidel Castro of the Congo, and of Africa.
But that was back when we resisted communist takeovers, and actually fought them. Now we have a communist POTUS and mayors of cities named for communists.
Shame about Lumumba. Gone to that great commune in the sky, I suppose.
With a name like Lumumba I would have been willing to guess he wasn’t exactly Mother Teresa. How was he in his eight months in office?

Thanks for posting this and linking. I’d never heard of him but took a second when seeing the name Lumumba.
For a second or two, I thought I had passed through a time warp to 1961.
Deadly job. The prior Mayor bought the farm not long ago.
I think there was a “Patrice Lamumba” University in Moscow.
It’s purpose was to take African students and turn them into little communist terrorists then send them back to work their magic on their fellow Africans.
“How was he in his eight months in office?”
Breathing, I guess...
Hmm, yes. Which brings us to the next question - is he a better Mayor now?
Jackson is 79.4 percent black; people believe!
