This is
another World Affairs Journal piece on Cuba by Michael J. Totten.
It seems that $20 per month and a ration card is not enough for many Cubans. Apparently they don't believe in equality.

Jeanne Kirkpatrick was wickedly funny in private and sharper than a tack.

All Marxist Democrats should strip down to equality and try living in the Cuban utopia for a year or so. Might cure them.

I was told by a native that 100% of the Vietnamese population wanted out of Vietnam (this was in 1996). Preferably, they wanted to go to the U.S., but really, just anywhere other than their Communist hellhole.
I’m sure this holds true for anyone in any other Communist country. It will prob be true for Americans before the Messiah is done.

I have dealt mainly with the boat people from SE Asia(you can buy a persons release from Vietnam and Cambodia if you pay in US$). My first contact with Cubans was at one our yard sales and an immaculate dressed gentleman was obsessed with my Dads engineering slide rule...he turned out to be a Russian trained civil engineer that had been forced at gunpoint to leave his country because he had argued with the party apparatus about a highway placement. He got the slide rule plus 2 more that I had. He cried and his son hugged me.
