They’d be better off learning accounting, finance, computer programming. Then again, if they plan a career in landscaping, garbage hauling, fast food, etc. then it may be a good thing to do. I can’t think of an environment withing the United States I would want to stay in where only Spanish is spoken.

How one hears the words "I want my kids to learn Spanish" and infers surrender of the country and giving up of English, I cannot begin to imagine. I simply can't. There is and has never been a time when learning a second (third, fourth, etc.) language is bad thing. It's an objective fact that this country is going to have an explosion of Spanish speakers in the next few decades. How on earth anyone can stick their head in the sand and say to their children, "No! Don't increase your skill level and value in the marketplace! Don't do anything to improve your access to all sorts of jobs!"
