Word For The Day, Monday, D2/24/14

;

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

malinger; verb

to pretend illness, espeically in order to shirk one's duty, avoid work, etc.

Etymology: Malinger derives from French malingre , "sickly," perhaps from Old French mal , "badly" + heingre , "lean, thin." Because he twice slapped battle-stressed soldiers in Sicily who, he thought, were merely malingering , he was denied a major command in the Normandy landings. -- Bernard Knox, "Scorched Earth," The New York Times , 1999 It is impossible to determine exactly what inspired Mary's various symptoms, but her own and other family members' letters suggest that her suffering may have been a combination of hypochondria, conscious histrionics and malingering , and unconscious rebellion against her father. -- Caroline Fraser, God's Perfect Child: Living and Dying in the Christian Science Church , 1999

Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)

I am resting at home with a cold. I had been fighting it since late last week.

Good to see you picking up my pedantry slack. ;-)

Plans are plans. It was warm inside, no big deal. We all rested more than we played.

We are headed into really cold weather again too, starting midweek, and a bit cooler than usual into March...

Maybe Hillary should malinger
For awhile, because that book
Her friend wrote steals thunder
From the lying and effort it took

To stand by her man as the gossip
Raked them both over the fire-
Her for being the worst enabler,
Him as a philanderer and liar

All her noise about feminism
Has years ago gone sour-
She’s just a weak sister who
Glued herself to a man with power

Thank you!

I just heard and read about it-I haven’t bought the book. A woman Hillary apparently counted among her best friends had all these papers, letters etc from Clinton’s years as governor of Arkansas and Pres that supposedly recounted his infidelities and Hillary’s vengeful nature toward the women while hanging on to her meal ticket, Bill. I think the woman is deceased, and someone else used the stuff to write the book-some of it was even in the Clinton library-a love note about an assignation, etc.

I have always thought that was a bad example for girls, for Hillary to demonstrate that it is okay to stick by your man, trash his mistresses and lie for him-put up with his emotional abuse as long as he is rich and powerful ...

I think the person whose notes those were is deceased-is that Mrs. chicken?

Weak sister is what my mom called whiny doormat women who wouldn’t stand up for themselves and always played the victim card-I picked it up at an early age...

I am feeling better today. Throat is better, sinuses less plugged. I might even avoid the sinus infection that follows most colds. I hope.

I am assuming Duke beat them and now is rated better than SU?
