Unfortunately, I am quite afraid that our local kids here in NYC would respond to her friendly wave with derisive comments and/or an extended middle finger held high. They simply have no respect at all for adults, particularly the elderly.
It is a shame; they don't know the affection and support they're cutting themselves off from, such as Mrs. Davidson so grandly demonstrates here.
