The way I see it, ice fishing is a basic survival skill here in the north.That's right. It allows you to get out of the house, away from the women and drink beer or spirits all day in the dead of Winter.

the Sunday before last my wife and I played “Ice Road Trucker” and drove across Lake Winnebago. It’s about 12 miles across on the ice road. Apparently the ice is around 36” thick right now so there is no imminent danger of it melting. The road opens up once the ice gets to be a foot thick. If you get to Wisconsin in the winter I would recommend it.

Got a cabin on a lake there.
It’s at least 20” thick I’d say. If a had a semitruck, I could drive it out there.
