Evidently you get to pick and choose your crimes. I posted this yesterday from a commenter who lives there. See again:
In this area there are over 100K students and traffic problems are constant. Pedestrians (mostly students) show no regard for any laws and navigating around is a royal pain and makes driving in that area a complete nightmare. There are complaints made and without them our police have to deal with them. No regard for laws, no respect for drivers and all seem to be completely above the law. Not 24 hours after this recording a student was killed by a bus while jaywalking in the early hours of morning. They literally do not care where they go and how they do it and its a chronic problem.
I worked at ASU for a couple of years, and every Semester the first week of class was a nightmare because droves of students would jaywalk and ride bikes straight across a one-mile stretch of Apache Blvd in Tempe by the hundreds. Safety in numbers, I guess. Driving through was utterly impossible until the one-week intensive Jaywalking sweep by Tempe Police would clear them out until the next Semester's batch of greehorns.
What I find interesting about this story is the date. I'm sure school started weeks ago, right? That's when a Jaywalking crackdown should have started. And, they usually use officers who are younger, more in shape and cuter. This chickie would not have gone floppy and screamed/cried if she thought the guy grabbing her was a stud.
