At least the mother is trying, but it sounds like she hasn’t been trying too hard before.
Where’s Dad?
Yeah, kinda want to applaud the mom for at least trying, but I don’t quite believe her when she says she doesn’t smack the kid around. Not knowing the family it’s hard to say if this approach will work but it’s sure better than doing nothing.
Shame, especially public shaming, is not an effective child-raising tool, IMO.
<snort>
C’mon.
This woman is trying to do something about her child. If y’all have perfect children and did everything right in raising them, then you might have a say. Sure, this woman is black. Sure, she’s doing somethings you or I might not do. She is, however, struggling to overcome the very things that way too many FReepers bitch about everyday. Give her, or those like her, a little encouragement or help instead of snarky comments.
My $0.02.
carrot AND stick could work
err...
I mean honey AND vinegar because sticks be a no-no these days
LOL!
That’s why I love this site.
They mother seems to be doing her best, but it doesn’t help a child escape poverty if there is no dad around and she names the girl Lutisha.
I agree that the mom should be disciplining her child, but doing it on Facebook is inappropriate and disrespectful to the child. This video will be out there forever.
How would mom like it if her employer did this to her? :(
Agreed.
Agree, but, as you said, no father. She’s trying.
It wouldn’t be my choice, either. However, she’s trying to do something and that needs to be encouraged and directed when possible - not quashed.
If it were me, the electronics would disappear forever and she’d be grounded until she was 35.
“Give her, or those like her, a little encouragement or help instead of snarky comments.”
Maybe the people snarking don’t have kids, or maybe they never had 12 year olds girls. They are pretty much the worst people on the face of the earth.
I was one, I had one, I’ve known others.
One that I know personally just had ALL her electronics taken away for the entire summer, if it had a cord it was gone, because she did not comply with the guidelines for use that her parents had laid out.
I don’t know that I’d do that, nor what this mother has done, but I think the “what” of the discipline is less important than that there is some.
Yep. I’m working on one now. Gives a lot of insight into the waste of time I spend on the ‘net, too.
They get better, but they are not right in their minds again for at least another 5-7 years.
I don’t know about boys so much, but the girls are unfailingly awful at that age.
