OTTAWA - The U.S. president now owes Prime Minister Stephen Harper two cases of beer Samuel Adams brand, specifically.
The friendly bet was made earlier in the week in Mexico, where the two leaders met for the North American Leaders' Summit.
After the Canadian women's Olympic hockey team came back to tie their Yankee rivals in the last minute of the game and win the gold in overtime, Harper announced via Twitter he was looking forward to his case of beer from Barack Obama. After the Canadian men's Olympic team defeated their American rivals Friday in a 1-0 shutout, Harper tweeted: "Like I said, #teamusa is good but #wearewinter." Then, to Obama, he said: "I look forward to my two cases of beer."
U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said on Twitter: "Making good on my promise: case of @SamuelAdamsBeer on the way."
Canada was quiet between noon and about 2:30 p.m. Friday during the game. Even the Toronto Stock Exchange showed significantly lower than normal activity.
The country that calls hockey its national religion will likely come close to a standstill Sunday when Team Canada plays Sweden for the gold.
The only Canadian apparently not overly interested or invested in our national sport was Opposition Leader Tom Mulcair, who spent game-time talking "affordability" in Fort McMurray, Alta.
"This week we've taken our affordability tour to Richmond, B.C., the B.C. interior and Fort McMurray," Mulcair's aide, George Smith told QMI Agency. "Here's hoping our men's hockey team will follow the women's success."
Smith said the game was on in the background.
Like I said, #teamusa is good but #wearewinter. @BarackObama, I look forward to my two cases of beer. #CANvsUSA #Sochi2014

I heart Harper.
The Americans threw the match to get out of going to the White House.
Dang. No hockey gold for Barry to take credit for.
I H8 Kerry.
You never would have seen this as a headline: “Canadian Prime Minister trash talks Reagan.” And that’s because the world’s leaders respected Reagan.
Apparently, he can’ even command the respect of his dog.
Lol.
I don’t think Obama is hockey fan
Maybe I am wrong
I can’t imagine him at Chicago Blackhawk game LOL!
You are so right.
Obum’a will send a case of this one, paid for by US taxpayers no doubt.

So, here’s the thing: It’s good. It’s excellent in fact. But is it “200 dollars good?” Obviously, that’s subject to your tastes, but for me, there’s no way. For about $40 more, you could buy a bottle of Macallan 21 year. Or you could buy two bottles of Lagavulin and still have $40 left to spend on dinner. To me, a whole bottle of this just wouldn’t make sense, but, then again, I don’t have money to burn.
Barry woulda’ just used the opportunity to praise any faggots on the team.
I would have bet against the US the second i had info that Obama was betting on it.
EVERYTHING the man touches turns to $hit!
Obama would play roulette but he has a hard time deciding between Reds and Blacks.
Calling in the bet for two cases of beer is now considered “trash talking”?
Jeez...
Same thing happened in 2010. They bet a case of beer then too IIRC.
Was it anything like this

PS Thirty years ago this was normal in sports from the college level on up.
There was ever a question?
