Just bought a >38 Special Colt Commando nickel plated(old Police issue) from a friend....Payed $250...Is this an OK deal? What a smooth action on this revolver.
Based on this listing at Gunbroker, I’d say “Hell yeah!” unless it’s in really rough shape.

About right for a used but good gun.
I had one years ago and it was a fine shooter especially with wad cutters within 25 yards.
It has a few nicks and scratches...It has been used for sure by my friends father for many years as a police chief...He told me he shot at one person with it...not been fired much...pretty gun. Thanks for the quick replies.
Take it to a trusted range and shoot it til it feels like your trigger finger extended.
Fill it full of hollow point devestators and feel a little safer.
Never Ever register it nor tell anyone you own it.
Buy ammo with cash.
Good luck.
Fortunately, FedGov would never think to monitor FR, so he's safe at the moment.
Oh Hell, yeah! I bought a ‘50’s .38 from an ex-cop. It looked like it had been fired once a year. It’s AWESOME! I can hit anything with it. Somebody threw out a bottle cap and I nailed it at 30 feet with one shot.
A revolver is the best for home defense. It won’t jamb. Totally reliable. The Colt’s an even better gun. You done good.
It’s a great deal. Colts are over-priced, and you made out very well.
You did okay if not better. With Colts and Title 2 firearms, you can never pay too much but you can always buy too early :)
Thanks all...This was a sentimental piece that my friend had...I told him i would sale it back to him for the same price if he wanted it back...His father is old and they are clearing out his estate, father needs the money...I told him to not sale to stranger because he would never get it back...I like the gun and will probably have it for life...but i am true to my word and will sale it back if he feels the family need to have it back...Thanks FR buddies for the replies...can always count on this site!
Atomic brand ammo makes a .38+P with inverted wadcutters. They’re excellent, hot and don’t tumble.
Nicks and scratches = character. if it's smooth to operate, isn't loose, and doesn't jam, it should be a good buy.
Don't forget to go boating soon and lose it in a freak accident...
Old pickups, ancient roman buildings and Colt .45’s are the only things that look good with a few dents, nicks and scratches.
Yer a good egg .. cheers !
Sounds like an old Tom T Hall song ... Watermelon wine.
