Change.org, a website that hosts public petitions, crashed Friday morning after a flood of users signed a petition to investigate a controversial Olympic figure skating result. Russia's Adelina Sotnikova won the gold medal in an upset over South Korea's Yuna Kim.
After the event, a Change.org petition called "Open Investigation into Judging Decisions of Women's Figure Skating and Demand Rejudgement at the Sochi Olympics" was started by a user named "Justice Seeker."
It went viral in a way the website had never seen before.
"The petition gained 700,000-plus signatures in just six hours and is sending traffic to our site at five times the highest previously-recorded rate," a spokesperson told the AFP.
The petition is up to 1.5 million signatures as of 6:30 a.m. eastern on Friday. The spokesperson told AFP that 90% of the traffic was from South Korea — where Kim is the country's most famous athlete.
Sotnikova had a more difficult routine and she nailed every jump, which gave her a better technical score than Kim by about five points.

It amazes me that anyone bothers to sign petitions on that joke website. Now, people who aren’t even from the U.S. are signing petitions for us to investigate things that aren’t in under U.S. jurisdiction? What did they think that would accomplish?
C’mon.....they only got “home towned.”

the russian had a better program than the south korean. my frau was commenting on the commentators last night talking about the south korean performance and couldn’t understand some of the praise. both of us thought the russian did better.
I thought the Italian had the best routine. And the biggest teeth.
What is really ridiculous is that after the French judge was caught making deals with other judges in Vancouver, the IOC changed the rules....and made the judges’ marks anonymous, thus making it impossible to catch the cheaters! So who knows how high the Russian judge marked the hometown girl yesterday, who was mechanically correct, with the emphasis on mechanical.
I spose that’s what happened to healthcare.org too ;-)

Meryl Davis and Charlie White left no doubt about their win. First ever gold for the USA in their category with a record score.
Life imitates art. White started out with dreams of playing hockey with the Red Wings. His coach told him to take up ice dancing to improve his skating skills.
Here is a clue. Skating judging is subjective and basically an opinion of a judge. Plus, you don’t get a vote. Its not a democracy.
During the Russian skaters routine, my daughter kept on saying “that’s cool”, “she’s good”, etc. She liked Caolina Kostner’s Bolero program. She also liked Mao Asafo’s program. She thought Yuna’s was good, but uninspired.
I agree with my daughter.
And an avowed lesbian. So look but don’t touch.
