The mayor said the show unfairly presents the worst of communities and Albuquerque should be showing off its positives. He further said Whats filmed on COPS happens in every community.
Heck, anyone outside the city can go online to view the ABQ Journal to get the latest news which includes plenty of criminal incidents.
What presents NM in a bad light are videos of police shooting at a car full of kids at a traffic stop (State Police outside Taos) or shooting and killing a woman who drove away after the officer performed the PIT maneuver (State Police again). If the series instead shows stopping bad guys and using proper police tactics to subdue them, it won't hurt the state's image.

That thing is still on the air?

I think Mayor Marty banned it because it showed everyone that East Central Avenue has the ugliest whores in the world.

That thing is still on the air? Criminal stupidity = timeless entertainment.
(That is, when you are not the victim.)

Deming? They’d have to change the theme song.
“Bad Cows Bad Cows, what ‘chu gonna do, when they come round milkin’ on you.”

LOL! The city is still trying to “gentrify” that area.

It is entertaining to watch fleeing low-IQ perps trip when their silly pants prevent them from running fast and/or trip them. Those pants certainly make the cops’ job easier.

Yeah, wouldn't want a TV show giving Albuquerque a negative image.

Yes, still on the air after all these years. I could watch that show for hours and never get bored. I just wish they'd cut the part when do that scripted banter in the squad car about why so-and-so decided to become a police officer.
There are three things that must happen in every COPS episode:
- Domestic disturbance in a trailer park or tenement. Man always shirtless and intoxicated. Woman always hysterical and disheveled. Always dirty dishes in sink with clothes, dirty ash trays and garbage strewn about the house. Camera will sometimes pan in on a rat scuttling through the trash.
- Somebody is always sure to say "I didn't do nuttin", "Them drugs ain't mine" or "Those ain't my pants!"
- Obligatory chase scene which usually ends with driver bailing out, leading to a foot chase in which overweight cops scale fences and trample through underbrush. Driver then invariably claims to not have been driving. "Car? What car? That ain't mah car!"
Hey, that formula has worked for 25 years! Why stop now?

The commie libs don't want the mugs of their voter base being plastered all over national TV. LOL! Get 'em libs!
My favorite quote from the show, "What I do?!"

Do you ever watch “Bait Car”, I think it takes place in a few places but mostly I’ve seen Atlanta. The cops have these special cars, very nice, and they leave them places with the keys in them. Invariably somebody comes along and takes the car (I’m not sure what these people are thinking, ever) and then the cops can stop the car and lock the doors by remote control.
Some of the theives are a little wise to their ways now, and they’ll drive the car with the door open a little, so they don’t get locked in.
It can be be pretty amusing.

That sounds like a great subject for a TV show! I will check it out. Is the “bait car” what the police were doing all along or was it the idea of a reality TV producer?
