Updated: Monday, February 17 2014, 08:02 PM EST WEST COLUMBUS (James Jackson/Kelsey Mallahan) -- A familys dog was fatally shot Sunday by police officers after they were called to the home because a moving truck was blocking traffic.
Brittnay Bergman and Dustin Ramsey just moved into the house on South Wayne Ave. They said when officers came to their door, their three to four-year-old Boxer, Delilah, ran out of the house.
"She jumped off the porch, growled at him. Put herself in the corner of our fence and greenhouse," Ramsey said.
Ramsey said that's when the officer grabbed his weapon.
"Shot at the dog nine times. She got nipped once with the first shot. Then the second shot dropped her," Ramsey said. "He [officer] said that he felt like his life was in jeopardy and that he was coming from a high stressful situation," Bergman said.
Now, their other dog is left without its friend and so is Brittnay's son.
"It's my 16-month old's dog and I don't know how I'm going to explain it to him when he comes home from his grandma's," Bergman said.
Bergman and Ramsey said their new home no longer feels like home. They now want to live somewhere else, but spent all of their money on this last move.
Columbus police said they are investigating the incident. They will interview witnesses and determine whether or not the officer followed procedure.
Oh, MRAPS. Cops just love those things.
Time to google thermite and have a BBQ.
“Or in their MRAPS.”
Could get a little toasty inside one of those things, :-)
Fidiots - Someone just called Chief Jacobs office and asked if they could make an appointment for an officer to come shoot my family dog. She was going to transfer my call. The caller said “Think about it.” and hung up. Fidiots. Protect and sever.
Legal precedence.
Sooner rather than later, everybody’s going to be eligible for making cops feel like their “life is in danger”.
I have stopped taking my dogs out except for vet visits because of this crap.
Cars get stopped here for stupid reasons, now.
Case in point, we were heading north on I81 when hubby thought maybe he’d left his wallet at the feed store one exit back.
We pulled off right on the shoulder of the ramp of the cloverleaf to check, in case we had to reverse direction to go back and get it.
In the <2 minutes we were sitting there, out of nowhere, a state cop appeared at my side of the car and knocked *hard* on the window, nearly scaring me to death.
He’d made a point to pull over and walk up to us *just* to see “why” we were stopped there.
[not sitting in the line of traffic, being a hazard to anyone or anything else, mind you]
What if one or both of the Dobes had been in the car?
They go bats if somebody walks too close to it, let alone nearly knocks a window out, pounding.
What -if- he “felt threatened” by them, even though they were inside the car, buckled into their safety harnesses, *but* doing exactly what they’re supposed to?
They can just stay home.
The law has gone berserk.
That cop stood there until hubby searched and found his wallet under the seat where it had fallen off the console...just to be sure we weren’t lying, I guess.
I kept waiting for him to freak out and hallucinate that hubby had “pulled out a weapon” instead of his wallet or some such madness.
I can’t wait for summer.
Because of The Blue Knights MC and our frequent benefit rides, cops generally leave bikers alone.
Until my ass back on my Harley, I’m considered a potential “danger”.
This is not America.
“Why can’t this be standard procedure for dealing with dogs when the police call is for a minor disturbance or other nonviolent situation?”
Testosterone poisoning.
Imagine what his cohorts would say if they found out he’d ‘gone wussy’ for a dog.
He can’t have that.
It’s much harder to conduct mass stealth raids on unsuspecting citizens if the family dog barks an alarm.
Therefore...
If you’d ever been involved in an “internal investigation”, you would know the answer to that.
They will -always- cover for one another, no matter -what-.
Those vehicles are very vulnerable. Don’t buy the hype about them. There is a reason the military rejected them and they got pawned off on Homeland Security.
Vulnerable to what?
It’s not like everybody has C4 laying around their kitchen.
Moron!
9 shots. Barney should have used the first round on himself.
The Ukrainiansfill up a depression with gasoline, lure an armored car to pass over it then toss a molotov.
Those vehicles are no different from the basic SWAT truck. A .50 cal will penetrate and rattle around in there like a BB in boxcar. Once the engine is stalled its over. They sit there like a post turtle. They are not Abrams tanks.

But, but, but, we’ve been assured it is the dogs, not the government employees, who suffer from da ebils.
Do you mean that our dogs are God’s gift to alert us to the nefarious designs of sinful men who neither fear Him nor regard their fellow man?
Huh. Novel idea.
Great because they had *way* too many restrictions on them before.
/we’re screwed
God is in control. They reckon without Him. If they knew Him, they would cease and repent of the wicked acts they do and have done.
