In Illinois, we're required to have 16 hours Classroom and Firearms training in order to achieve Certification, required to apply for an receive a Conceal/Carry Weapons permit.
Today my wife and I completed my training by achieving my Firearms Certification, scoring 100% on the firearms portion of the test. All shots center mass / kill shots.
Upon getting home this afternoon, we scanned in our Certification paperwork and uploaded to the Illinois State Police, completing filing of our CCW Permits.
I am very glad for you in that, but for this: Don’t you feel that a required record would be where confiscation by government would start?
they probably have him on the re-education list already for his good posts here over the years . ;-P
There are 102 counties in IL. Most folks outside this state do not know how loathed and despised Cook County (Chicago) and Sagamon County (Springfield) are by the other 100 counties.
I grew up in a NRA household. In the '60s, Dad teamed up with a shop teacher and they started a gun safety "club" at our school. Lots of NRA videos on gun safety and many other activities to make folks safe and comfortable with firearms. Straight forward and on target.
There's no doubt I'd prefer a Constitutional Carry state. That's not what we have. No, it's not "perfect" but from where we were which was "no conceal/carry & a complete handgun ban in Chicago and many municipalities" Illinois has come literally light years.
I expect over time a further loosening will occur, based on last weeks 9th Circuit Court of Appeals ruling in California. Illinois has even stricter CCW restrictions than California has, thus I expect "loosening" of the CCW laws here.
If I had done that which you're implying along with others on this thread, I'd either (a)continue violating the law as I have been since 1998/1999 illegally conceal-carrying and risking jail time OR (b)not achieved my certification and not conceal/carried at all.
One option lands me in jail, the other option lands me potentially in the morgue.
No thank you, I don't like either of those two options. Those nattering naybobs of negativity who screech Illinois law isn't "perfect" I agree with the sentiment, I DISAGREE on waiting/doing nothing until the law is "perfect."
Not gonna happen here. I'll take what I can get, which again, is LIGHT YEARS ahead of where this state was just last year.
My family moved to Illinois from Iowa when I was 15 back in 1977. We lived in C(r)ook County.
When I married at 23 years old, I purchased my first home (at 24) in C(r)ook County.
By the time I reached 28 years old, I "wised up" and moved OUT of C(r)ook County and out to rural Will County.
Gotta tell ya, there really isn't much of a difference between the R's and D's in this state. Both parties are out to squeeze as much money out of us as they can via taxes, "fees" and "fines" for damn' near everything. The only thing we DO NOT get taxed on is breathing and I'm sure that's coming!
The political corruption in this state makes Arkansas under the Clinton era look like rookies by comparison. There's a reason 4 of our past 7 Governors have gone to jail.
As for me, I'm only here another 2.5 - 3 years tops. As soon as both sons are out of high school and in college I don't care if I have to burn my house down to collect the insurance on it, we're OUTTA here.
You mean someone's actually been reading my posts on here since I joined in 1998?
Damn, if I had known that I might have actually spoken my mind! ;-)
I do understand. Please don’t think me flippant.
Personally I’ve long felt pretty comfortable carrying a knife when out ‘n about. Currently it’s a 4” flip-out, but I’d rather my K-Bar, though it’s less easy to conceal.
‘Learned a lot about weapons in the Army and Vietnam, though would never dream of registering what I had or want. It is NONE of the government’s business AT ALL. There’s also none of this “The Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation” feces attached to it.
If it’s such an issue to the American People, then it can be addressed in ways described by the amendments processes within Constitution, not outside it. I do not and will NEVER recognize the principle any other way.
Congratulations! And welcome to the clubs.
I’m on the waiting list at Article II. Nice local range run by good folks.
