Twin studies conducted decades ago revealed a genetic component to schizophrenia, with the genes involved still being worked out. The evidence so far is that many genes contribute to the condition. One can say that the genes set the predisposition, while environment provides the trigger.

Many genetic conditions follow the same pattern.

I thought you were referring to something more specific in terms of genes known to be directly associated.
