VIDEO: Idaho Cop Fatally Shoots Dog Outside House of Owner During Son's Birthday Party

The Filer Police Department claims it was a justifiable shooting, but an outraged Rick Clubb plans to sue, saying, 'Maybe I deserve a ticket, but I don't deserve a dead dog.'

An Idaho police officer was caught on video fatally shooting a dog just yards away from the house where a birthday party was being held for the owner's 9-year-old son.

Dashcam video shows Officer Tarek Hassani of the Filer Police Department approaching dogs on the street and shooting Rick Clubb's 7-year-old black Lab.

“He didn’t have to pull out his .45 and shoot my dog,” Clubb told the Times-News, which obtained the video. “It was right outside my son’s bedroom. What if it had ricocheted through the window?”

Authorities say the dog was being hostile and that the shooting was justified. A neighbor had called the cops to complain about the loose dogs.

"(Officer Hassani) tried to get out of his car, both dogs aggressed him at his door, he managed to get out of his car and had to kick one of the dogs away,” Filer Police Chief Tim Reeves told KMVT.

Hassani tried to make it to the house to speak with Clubb, Reeves said, but never made it. In the video, Officer Hassani can be heard screaming "get back" at the dogs.

"Finally when he kept trying to come up to the house to talk to the owner, to get the owner to take control of the dogs he ended up having to shoot the dog for his own safety," Reeves said. "We never want to have to shoot a dog but sometimes it happens.”

Clubb told the Times-News that he has Parkinson's disease and that "Hooch" was his training dog. He was given a ticket for allowing the dogs to run free. He plans to fight it.

"I’m going to sue them, I’m going to sue the City of Filer and the police chief and officer," Clubb told KMVT. "Maybe I deserve a ticket, but I don't deserve a dead dog."

Have people in this town ever been attacked by such dogs?

Is there a law that says dogs must be leashed in this town?

You missed my point.....THIS one is!

Undoubtedly, some of the shootings were justified. I think the consensus, from viewing the video, is that THIS one wasn’t.

Whether the cop was justified in shooting the dog is one thing, but damn... people... LEASH YOUR DOGS!

Dogs protect their territory. Cops intrude on your private property. Dogs go out to confront the intruder. Cop shoots dog. What this means is that ANY dog is a fair target and can be killed.

Some people become cops because they can legally shoot dogs and deaf old men with TV remotes.

The people made a web site in the town and have been putting pressure on the Police to fire this guy. People are fed up with the cops indiscriminate killing of people and pets..No-knock raids that usually kill and innocent victim. Cops are not our friends..

The owner of this dog was not his friend.

If this same owner had let his dog run loose unattended, and that dog ran out into the street and got run over, who is responsible for the death of that dog?

If this same owner let his dog run loose unattended, and that dog went into a neighbors yard and bit their child causing injury, who is responsible for that injury?

This dog owner, who caused this situation to occur by way of his clear IRRESPONSIBILTY, is the reason that his dog died.

He’s going to lose his law suit, and if anyone should be held accountable for the death of the dog, it should be the dog’s owner.

And?

Does that excuse him from being responsible for his dog?

Is he also not responsible for his children because he’s in a wheel chair?

If his unattended dog goes into a neighbors yard and bites the neighbor’s child, should the neighbor foot the bill for medical expenses incurred as a result of the bite because the dog’s owner is in a wheel cheer?

Please explain to me how the dog’s owner being in a wheel chair absolves the dog’s owner of responsibility for his dog?

The dog was wagging its tail. That officer was an idiot and should be fired ASAP.

Is the wagging tail a guarantee that the barking dog is not going to attack?

Is the wagging tail a sign that the dog is in an excited or agitated state of mind?

How is a person who has never met the dog supposed to be able to deduce what the dog’s wagging tail actually means while being barked at by the same dog?

Do you think that if the dog’s owner had kept the dog on a leash or in a fenced yard that all of this could have been avoided?

Do you think that the dog’s owner should fired ASAP for causing this officer to shoot the dog?

What if the dog with the wagging tail had bitten the officer on the thigh and severed his femoral artery and killed him?

Who would be responsible for that death?

Is a person yelling a guarantee that they won't attack a police office?

Is the driver of an automobile pulling over a guarantee they will not fire a weapon at an officer?

The only safe thing for law enforcement to do is shoot any human they come in contact with. (Besides which, with the number of law we have now, there is a guarantee they were braking some law or code)

I am not excusing the dog owner, I am saying it may have been harder for him to get the dogs in. That does not give the Cop a excuse to shoot the dog. He was kicking at it and intimidating the dog. Then he proceeded to kill it on the owners property.. That is what I find hard to swallow. How can people still defend Police? They are a bunch of Roided up thugs now a days. Hundreds of stories on line about them breaking the law. People in America are getting fed up. Soon we may see scenes like in the Movie Assault on Precinct 13.. And a lot of Americans will cheer.

You know what I am?

I’m a dog lover. I do not like it at all when dogs get shot, and I don’t like it when dogs get shot by police.

What I really don’t like is nuisance dog owners that do not take proper and responsible care of their dogs resulting in their dogs’ being in danger or placing others in danger by menacing or attacking.

What do you think the result of my letting my German Shepherd running lose and unattended in my unfenced front yard might be?

If the man’s disability prevented him from caring for his dog properly, then he should have given it to someone who could, because now the dog is dead, and it’s no one’s fault but his.

Listen, I understand that these men are far from perfect, and in many cases I do not support them.

I really do not support what was done in this case. Had it been me I would have first maced the dog.

I have done this before walking my own dog and being threatened by stray dogs, and it works.

You know I don’t want to shoot a dog. That wouldn’t make me feel good at all. I love dogs.

But as dog owners, we know the dangers of this world that our dogs do not. A dog does not know that it can and likely will be shot to death by a cop.

So it is up to us to everything in our power to prevent our dogs from ever confronting or even being in the presence of officers.

in a case where an officer shows to a wrong house and then shoots a dog in its fenced in yard...as far as I’m concerned that is a serious crime.

But in a case where a dog owner is irresponsible and places others in danger via his irresponsibility, I simply cannot defend that.

This was a tragedy for the dog, but it was caused by his owner.

Why was the dog run around loose outside unattended?

When I was a kid, many dogs ran loose. Those who owned hyper breeds kept them penned. Loose dogs biggest problem was barking at cars. It was solely a risk to stupid dogs. Cops did not go around shooting dogs. loose social dogs are a problem only to the paranoid.
