Beauty products made from plastic microbeads set to be banned in New York
New York could be the first state to outlaw tiny plastic beads used in cosmetic and beauty products like facial scrubs and toothpastes, if lawmakers in Albany get their way.
The sale of products that contain the plastic beads, which are added to aid exfoliation and abrasion, will be prohibited if proposed legislation, introduced today on behalf of Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, is passed.
Too small to be sifted out at sewage treatment plants, the tiny beads end up in the ocean where the plastic, which does not biodegrade, becomes a persistent pollutant ingested by wildlife and toxic to sea organisms.
The beads, hundreds of thousands of which can be found in one beauty product bottle alone, slip through wastewater treatment plants after being washed down bathroom drains. Tens of millions of the tiny 'microplastic' debris are now sitting in the Great Lakes, according to scientists estimates.
There are also high concentrations along the New York shores of Lake Erie, and they have been found in the Los Angeles River and in the Pacific Ocean as well.
Coated with toxins like PCBs, the beads are often eaten by fish and other marine life.

I’m trying to remember the brand of ALA I use. One kind I’ve tried didn’t mix in with the coconut oil very well. YMMV.
I was going to pick some up at Trader Joe’s. Wasn’t that, was it?
No. I can’t remember the brand that didn’t work. It might come to me though. I’ll try to remember to reply to you if I remember.
Progressives will ALWAYS find a reason to ban anything.
I could invent a car that drives 1000 miles per gallon of raw sewage at 500 HP and they would try to ban the technology. Heck, even if my car ran on unicorn farts the EPA would find a fish that ONLY lives on unicorn farts and must be protected at all costs.
Since I have too much experience with claims that harmless substances which compost naturally are nonbiodegradable I want to personally see the lab work which claims to establish this as a fact.
Remember how brown paper trash bags aren’t biodegradable?
How about that non biodegradable glycol (processed from the stomach acid from slaughtered cattle) which somehow composts to dirt if you pour it on a pile of leaves.
Too much crying wolf and to long a track record of fraud to accept this at face value.
How close are Al Gore and Michael Moore involved?
I use the brown sugar and olive oil scrub, follow it with an egg white/lemon/honey mask and after I get out of the shower a cider vinegar/water toner. A great natural routine.
