Every German fighting in Italy reduced the number available to meet those problems by one. Like I said early, there were no good options on that front. But it was better than letting Churchill try another Gallapoli.

Also the biggest limiting factor were the number of available amphibious landers.
The Pacific War used a lot and D-Day required more than we had or could crank out.
