I remember a guy in our squadron that didn't like his call-sign (they are never flattering like the movies). He started screaming “don't call me that”, so for a week we just called him “Asshole”. After that, he didn't think the call-sign was so bad.

In fairness, there are some people born with physical characteristics of both sexes, or of indeterminate gender. That's got to be a tough row to hoe. I'd understand some hard feelings from such individuals if they aren't treated with at least some courtesy and compassion.
