Quinn and Rose are off the air, (temporarily, I hope!) Gone, but DEFINITELY not forgotten! Meanwhile, our friendly group of dedicated FReeper Q&R fans will meet in our usual spot - same time, same station - as we always have! So grab your coffee - or whatever you choose to start your day - and drop in for some political chit-chat, or just to shoot the breeze! We are all coming from - or going to - work, but we all stop in to say hi! Feel free to join us!
LOL! Yep! I have a small basement office where I can retreat to as well. I don’t have a computer down there, so the mp3 is a must! I go there sometimes when I need to get away from the other people here who could care less about politics or the mess we’re in as a country. They get on my nerves with their silly banter.
OK, I am officially a grumpy old woman. :-)
Interesting news. prisoner6
In that case 105.9 may be the FM going all-sports.
Which would make sense as it has a much stronger signal, keeping both the Steelers and Pens happy.
104.7 has been running promos touting “ten years of conservative talk, looking forward to ten more”.
I thought that was pure misdirection, but maybe not.
If it’s true then they’ll have to come up with something to put on in the morning other than Bloomdaddy. That guy has no future outside of Wheeling.
NO WAY!!! I really liked him! Well, I guess that nixes C2C as well.
Hello. I hate winter
Oh snuggling...
Heard Rose advertizing her trip..
FYI from Voy forums, Pittsburgh Radio...
FWIW!
The Future at CC 104.7 FM -- Dysfuncion Junction, 13:00:26 02/07/14 Fri [1] So the dust has sort of settled over at CC on top of Green Tree Hill.
105.9 The X is going back towards a more music formatted audience with Abby going to mornings, Tim Benz off to AM 970, MM going all talk, no music & the forgotton addition of Mike Steel now on 6p-12a (MM's old producer).
So is that the end of the 'changes' to take place? Not exactly.
The word is that 104.7 could still very well flip formats to 1 of 2 things....ESPN Radio/24 hr sports or....Country!
Yes, that's right there is still talk about these changes. Of course, it could stay News/Talk.
So what's the deal here? Pretty Simple, you have 3 people at CC either butting heads/in disagreement on what the next step is for the station.
1 Gregg Henson- The PD of 104.7 does some sort of show from 6-8 pm M-F & to be honest, unless you are actually tuned into the station, you would have no idea they even do sports. Much of what he does is nothing more than replay clips from 940 AM's shows like Stan Savran & David Todd (is he still paying to be on 970???) so if and when he has an opinion on something topical, you really must tune into hear it. Henson wants 104.7 FM to flip. If it does, pray he's not in charge as it would be a disaster. Chance of this happening < 50%
2. David Edgar- One of the suits at CC who sits above Henson, but is more on the Web end of things. Edgar seems to favor a flip to a Country format. I'm not sure cost wise if that is a better choice for CC, as they would have to go with a morning show (most likely syndicated) & some live jocks, where a sports flip means taking the existing 'talent' and moving them from AM 970 to FM. Chance of this happening < 25%
3. Gene Romano- The Capo di tutti capi (ok he's Executive Vice President Clear Channel Media+Entertainment) and thinks 104.7 should stay News/Talk. Since this idea doesn't cost anything, you can almost be assured that the Chance of this happening is > 99.9%
Talk amongst yourselves people....
Who will listen to MAYBE buy a box of Pretty Good Bisquits (or whatever they are) ?
Someone try to tell me again how this was not a political move.
Why hasn't Glenn put them up in their own mansions in Texas and given them the 6-9 slot ?
What's Clear Channel up to? -- Not much, but not for long., 06:25:44 02/07/14 Fri [1]
Some people are disappointed to learn of recent personnel shifts at CC Pittsburgh, hoping to hear instead of format switches. What are the suits at CC waiting for? My guess is as good as anyone's, so here goes.
CC has a big problem: too much debt. Corporate recently told managers in all markets to cut another 5% out of expenses. Problem is, there's not much left to cut at CC Pittsburgh. Merkel, Krenn, Quinn & Rose are all gone. Now Paulsen, again. And that's just morning hosts, big ticket items.
There's another problem, specific to Pittsburgh. CC has contracts with Beck, Limbaugh and Hannity that most likely make it difficult to make changes like dropping the shows or switching them to another frequency.
Ratings on 104.7 are not what they used to be and it's a hard sell to many advertisers. It makes sense CC would want to abandon Rush's expense and go with a new, cheaper format that would be easier to sell, like Country or Sports.
Then there's the competition. CBS finally found a format fro 93.7 that not only cuts into DVE's ratings, but also sells ads like crazy. The Fan, no matter what some posters on this forum may think, is a ratings and sales success.
And then there's Y-108. Country music is hot, recent research says it's the most listened to format in the nation. Without a strong competitor, Y-108 is cleaning up in ratings and revenue.
The emergence of The Fan and the success of Y-108 have, together, made doing business much more difficult at CC. No doubt, it would be cheaper to go with a Country format on 104.7, but the contracts with the syndicated talk hosts are likely holding things up.
Flipping to sports makes some sense on WXDX. Who knows how strong revenue is at The X? CC could move the lineup to The X from 970 ESPN and keep Madden, maybe put him in mornings, but I wonder if The X is doing well enough as a hybrid music/sports station as is.
My opinion is: something will happen this year. Most likely, it will be the end of Talk on 104.7 in favor of Country. CC has talent it can pipe in from other markets inexpensively and it's reasonable to assume they could get enough ratings with a hot format and make money doing it.
Another, less likely, possibility is CC flipping 104.7 to an Urban AC format to reach an underserved market.
My prediction is: no matter what the suits at CC do, they're reacting to developments and successes at CBS, following, not leading.
That may happen but remember there seemed to be some friction between Rose and Glenn when he came to Pittsburgh for his first Christmas show here.
I would like to think their professionalism would count for something
Their ... meaning both Rose and Glenn.
Thanks for your analysis, p6. Always appreciated. So what are Quinn and Rose’s options? A lot of the well-known talk show hosts are not as good, IMHO. They want to play it safe. Limbaugh is one of the best, but he never says the things Q&R are not afraid to say. I was always surprised that such a democrat town as Pittsburgh tolerated the conservative lineup on WPGB, although I always remember it as more family-friendly and traditional. My Pittsburgh-born (South Side) mom was very conservative, but she was a democrat until her dying day! Those of us in Pa flyover country sure do miss them!
Good(Sunday) morning AM! Well, Mr S and I packed it in and bought a Roku3 last night. Mr S had a blast checking through all the options. Found some of our favorite shows. Why are some shows just clips? Neither of us knew much about Netflix, but we started checking that out last night and decided to sign up for it. If the Roku fills the bill for us, we are going to drop down to basic cable. Talked to the cable company, and they gave us a special ‘deal’ for the next 12 months. After that, we go to basic. Mr S loves the older movies and shows. Me, not so much. I’m interested in cooking, gardening and history shows. Heck, I could spend all day just on Youtube! We watched several videos - really cool!
Cool... vimeo, livestream, Instant Watch Browser for Netflix(lite), tunein, iHeartRadio, Goose berry Patch, Weelicious, GialloZafferano
