I remember the ‘69 Mets broadcast team -

Ralph Kiner Lindsey Nelson Bob Murphy


They stuck together as the Mets went in auto-desruct mode, dumping great pitchers in exchange for cheaper, marginal talent. Tom Seaver for Steve Henderson and a coupla guys named nobody? Willie Montanez? By the late '70s they just had stearns, Koosman and Mazilli. Pretty sad, except for us Dodger fans!

And the worst trade in NY Mets history is trading Nolan Ryan to the Angels for washed up 3rd baseman Jim Fregosi. When Nolan pitched for the Mets and Jerry Grote was the catcher it was an all Texas battery.

They got of course Henderson, but also Pat Zachry, Doug Flynn and last but not least Dan Norman. I remember Norman taking a fly ball off the head in the Astrodome in rightfield. Had to be the worst fielding outfielder ever.
