They've been together five years, so he got her when she was about 36 and he was 70. I'm going to guess she was a bit too dysfunctional to survive well on her own (as demonstrated by her latest episode) and too crazy for a boyfriend her own age to want to put up with her, and thus was agreeable to be the girlfriend of this guy, in exchange for being allowed an acceptable budget.
She's having difficulty accepting that her market value has been declining with age.
