I agree with your theory of social Darwinism, so I’m cruel, too-but that is okay. Most of my dealings with those who were compulsive alcohol and drug abusers was in my career as a case manager, and I’m very leery of adults who exhibit a lack of personal responsibility like that. I won’t hire them to work on a jobsite of mine and XXX’s, and I’m all for letting all adults reap the consequences or rewards of their choices and conduct, as long as they are not committing murder, theft, rape, debauching a minor, etc-let God sort it out, since he certainly does a better job than humans...
Flame away, but that is how I look at the thing-we are not our brother’s keeper 24-7-365....
I’ve heard that about Russians all my life-my military officer dad said vodka would eventually accomplish what a nuke could not.
I just see drugs or alcohol abuse as something I don’t care to be around. None of our friends smoke cigarettes - none of them. We can’t stand the smell and don’t choose to go to places where they allow smoking. And while we probably know someone who secretely smokes pot, in our circles no one proudly admits that they do.
Seems what we are doing now is just enabling. Legalize it all but no regulation to ameliorate effects, just let the chips fall where they may. Why spend tax dollars to coddle those chasing a high. Social Darwinism does really capture that idea. Survival of the smartest and strongest.
So you do want a broader power of the government and higher taxes?
Depends. Will it be hot broads, or dumpy broads?

I have no complaints. Though I’ll admit, at least compared to my old neighborhood, this move to the ‘burbs has truly increased the gawkability factor.

I smoke cigarettes once in awhile, with about the same frequency as I drink a beer or a glass of wine-maybe a pack per month-but only at my place, or with others who do.
I don’t choose to be around those who do drugs, drink until crazy or swing-aka wife swap, so I don’t hang with people who do that stuff-I maintain a friendly relationship with my neighbors, but I don’t go to gatherings where I don’t like the activity-remember the stories about my lesbian former next door neighbors and their sex parties?
Although every vice can be found right up the road out here, because it is remote, people don’t care what adults do as long as they keep it to their own property-the sheriff deputies don’t care either, unless a big fuss is being raised-they are short handed and needed for real crimes.

The state (not the feds) has the power to control intoxicating substances. If pot is illegal now and I think it’s better for it to be legal, how is that “broader power of the gov’t?” It’s just a different exercise of the same power, and one that increases freedom.
As for taxes, yes. As I have stated numerous times, I think it better for the money to go in the front door of the state treasury rather than the back door of the corrupt cops and politicians.
And sin taxes on intoxicants to help ameliorate their bad effects (and plump up the gov’t coffers in general) is nothing groundbreaking.
Why should the criminals and politicians (but I repeat myself) get all the profit?
I can’t believe my luck that my younger girl’s skating class this year is on Saturday morning, the same time as an adult skating class. Moms in tights, and even one who favors hot pants. It is as if I have died, and went to heaven, and somehow was allowed to smuggle naughty thoughts in too.
Now you sound like a libertarian. In theory, the market punishes suppliers who kill and cheat their customers.
Do you think we should get rid of food purity laws, too?
Which is why I always laugh at the NFL and NBA stars who get busted smoking pot in a downtown hotel.
Like they don't have money to have a mansion in a private area.

Your wife needs to beat you regularly! And I don’t mean that in any weird sexual fantasy way.... just a good old fashioned beat down! lol
And the smartest and strongest-with the emphasis on smartest-don’t usually get wasted and put themselves into the position of doing something lawsuit-worthy to another adult, or committing a crime.
I think it would go a long way just make all intoxicants only for those over 18 or 21-whatever each state says is an adult-like alcohol is, and if you drive or do a crime while under the influence, pay up, no excuses of being stoned, being addicted-and no one is a “victim” of their own behavior-that would end a lot of the enabling that goes on.
I see no reason to spend the tax money, either-I pointed out the other day that most insurance covers substance abuse rehab-and I worked for a company once that even offered legal insurance-put the whole thing in the private sector...
no, bc you need to eat to live, you don’t need to get high to live. one is a necessity the other is a vice.
So booze should also be unregulated? This is a curious line of thought you have going.
There are lots of things we don’t need to survive, yet we have consumer standards and laws preventing fraud.
