Yeah. He was amazing! He did it TWICE for the same family.

2 years before the young man’s death, my son, the young man, his sister, and another friend were involved in a head on crash in a driving rain storm over Spring break returning from a weekend at the parents’ (our neighbors) cottage in Corpus Christi. The boy was driving and had to be cut out of the car, the other driver was drunk and on the wrong side of the road, our friend’s sister was killed, my son injured his rotator cuff, and the 4th passenger was unhurt.

The family just fell apart because the daughter was their pride and joy. They sort of dumped planning the whole funeral on my son (he was 19). So when their son died suddenly at 19, they did it again — put a lot of the details and notifications into my son’s hands.

Our son said to my husband, “Well, Dad, you know you’ve grown up when you help load your best friend into a plane in a body bag.”

Thank you. I have to agree, although he was the most challenging one of the four.

It is actually 50, and the sun is coming out-when I finish pricing stuff for my compadre’s bid, I’m going to put something for lunch into my hand-carry pack and hike upriver to look for wild herbs and flowers with seeds to gather-I’m pretty sure I saw some mullein not far away the other day.

I wonder if Obama’s minions
Are all grinding their teeth
After his splashy performance
With no substance underneath

Every muttered imprecation
From every handler’s mouth
Just fuels negative opinion-
His whole trip is going south

None of the showboat speeches
Or favors for sale or trade
Can keep the now-aware people
From handing him a failing grade...

I think it’s time to do away with the minimum wage. Let the market decide.

And what about this b.s. that women get paid 77% of what men earn for doing the exact same job? Anyone who sat through the first 10 minutes of ECON 101 would realize that this is an impossibility.

To wit: A business owner (many of whom, by the way, are women) has two applicants for the same job, a man and a woman. They are equally qualified. The woman will work for $77,000. The man wants $100,000. Guess who is going to get hired? Every single time. Eventually, if men get tired of being unemployed, they will be willing to take less money in order to get a job. And women, seeing that they are still being underpaid, will ask for more money. The equilibrium point will be somewhere between $77,000 and $100,000, and everyone who is similarly qualified will receive the same salary.

Even in good economic times I charge less than men who do the same work I do, because I do all my work by hand-no spraying of texture or paint, with machines to buy and maintain etc, and I work alone without a helper unless there is lifting-over 30-40 lbs-to be done. I also have to be more competitive with my rates because I’m a female working in a traditionally male occupation.

Does this mean I’m oppressed, disadvantaged or need government to protect me? What I do need is for nanny government to stop showing gender preference to me or any other person, step aside, go away and let the market work-then none of us be so hard pressed as we are now...

The White House had to explain that it wasn’t discriminating against women, though they on average pay them less. If you look at people doing the same job at the same level, pay is equal.

Private industry responded: duh

I find all of the drug talk very depressing, and the extensive knowledge about it, by our fellow classmates more than a little disconcerting. In my opinion drugs are a horrible imprecation, and their eradication seems preferable to any legalization/regulation. I know it sounds cruel and inhumane and the soother will report me to the priest as having an unchristian thought, but if everyone who took drugs died from them, how long would it take for drugs to lose their appeal? actions have consequences. harsh, i know.

In Islam there are harsh penalties for things like drugs and alcohol.

I prefer freedom.

“Eradication” is not an option unless you want a police state. So you have to work with reality.

You may not enjoy the occasional intoxication, but many do and it is not necessarily a sin.

i wasn’t speaking of penalties, i was merely suggesting that allowing people to experience the consequences of their actions might serve to deter.
