I did not see in article, usually this type of activity requires a signed release and a waiver.
Since injured teen is a minor- dad probably signed.

You are probably right and it is legally wrong. Most jump operations have an exculpatory contract for participants. A parent signed exculpatory contract is not enforceable because parents cannot sign away the rights of a minor child.
